27 Brentwood School Preparatory Football, Rugby, Netball & Cricket Heseltine won the House Netball with Dia Nafis being awarded Player of the Tournament. Both Junior and Senior Football teams finished second and we were third in both cricket and rounders. Once again, we won both the Junior and Senior Rugby events. Cross-Country & Swimming We did exceptionally well in the Junior events with Tobi Olajide in first place and Johnny Pilgrim in second place. We were able to win both the Junior Girls and Junior Boys events this year. Emma Dowlen also ran well, finishing third in the Senior Girls’ event. In the Senior Girls’ Swimming Gala Ellie Merritt won the diving event and was third in the 2L Challenge but our most successful result was in the Junior Boys’ Gala. William Dowlen won the diving event, with Alex Roffey in second place. Tobi Olajide won the 1L Challenge and the Individual Competition, with John McBurney in second place in both events. Heseltine won by a significant margin which was particularly pleasing as it was the last House competition of the year and the last one ever for Mrs Woodford! Prize Giving Attainment prizes were awarded to Tobi Olajide, Lucy Trevelyan, Dmitry Molostvov and Alex Lockyer. Effort prizes were awarded to Rudraksh Gangooly and Alexander Blee. Faris Fahal won the Hill Attainment prize and the Hoskins Library Cup. Alex Lockyer won the Public Speaking prize and gave a superb address to the guest of honour at Prize Giving. Alex also won the Pickthall Memorial Prize for Music. Dia Nafis won the Choir Prize. Emma Dowlen won the Senior Art Prize. In sport, Damifola Odelusi won the PE Prize and Ellie Merritt won the Ruddock Shield for Gymnastics. House Meetings This year has seen many pupils from all year groups deliver talks and presentations to the house. We have also enjoyed a range of musical performances with some exceptional cello playing by Alex Lockyer. Many thanks go to the six House Captains who performed their duties so well this year. They were as follows: Michaelmas Term : Khairah Francis-Shayek & William Howard Lent Term: Emma Dowlen & Matthew Trevelyan Trinity Term: Finn Hennessy & Dia Nafis Faris Fahal and Ellie Merritt have also been excellent prefects this year. Finally, we had to say goodbye to Mrs Woodford this year. She has been at the school for more than 25 years and has been a Heseltine House Tutor for the last decade. She has done her best to help the house and encouraged many pupils to give their best performance in a wide range of House events. We wish her well for the future and would like to thank her for all that she has done for Heseltine House. S.Turner– Heseltine House Tutor Fantastic teamwork, individual efforts and good behaviour have been the success behind Lawrence House this year. Our Prefects and House Captains have been a credit to the House in supporting others and leading with maturity and dedication. House Football House football was a very fun afternoon. The sun was shining and there were no clouds in sight. The first matches were Heseltine vs Lawrence and Quennell vs Bayman. Heseltine beat Lawrence and then Bayman beat Quennell. So that meant that Quennell played Lawrence and Heseltine played Bayman. Bayman beat Quennell and became the winners! And Quennell beat Lawrence and came third. It didn’t matter where we came because at least we had a fun afternoon. The most enjoyable thing about it was that everyone has a chance to play football no matter how good you are or how bad you are. It was the best house event in my opinion. By Thibaud Mathieson Senior House Rugby House Rugby was a phenomenal event for the Year 5 and 6 boys, and the parents who were watching the event. Luckily the weather didn’t get too bad so frozen fingers were not a problem! The team played hard and listened to their captain, Thibaud Mathieson who encouraged the Lawrence team to play harder and tackle the opposition. Despite our efforts we emerged last with Heseltine winning House Rugby. Senior Boys’ Swimming Gala It was the Boys’ senior house swimming gala. All of the boys gathered together in their swimming gear ready to swim for their house. All of the races were so close between Quennell, Lawrence, Heseltine and Bayman, who were all fighting for first place. The chanting was so loud and different from each house no one could understand the different names. TWEET!!! Went Mrs Woodford’s whistle. SPLOSH!!! went the swimmers as they dived expertly into the warm water. It was so much fun. Jake Horton Senior Girls’ Swimming Gala Congratulations to Emily Pheby, who was joint 2nd in the diving competition and to Scarlett Johnson and Savannah Morrish who came 2nd and 3rd respectively in the individual competition. A fantastic team effort. Lawrence ended up overall winners! House Cross Country On a cold February morning our school had the house cross- country competition. Boys and girls had separate races that were split into Years 3 and 4, and Years 5 and 6. In the boys Year 3 and 4 race we all lined up in between two flags, checked our laces were tied and jostled a bit for a good starting position. Then Mrs Woodford blew her whistle. We were off! It was very exciting and people’s positions changed a lot after our bolt from the starting line. We could hear the cheers from our family and friends, and that helped keep us going. We were given a card with our final place number on it that we had to give to the house stand. Thankfully, there were lots of bottles of water waiting for us - that was a wonderful sight. Toby and Sean Read Senior House Cricket House cricket was fantastic! Our first match was against Heseltine. When I first heard this, I was thinking that we would have to defend for some time because they have some really good bowlers. We used pads, helmets, proper leather cricket balls, and wooden bats. Some of us were surprised, as this was our first time playing with Lawrence House
