Brentwood School Preparatory 44 Come and Play In the Lent term we enjoyed Come and Play. The children brought in their own toys to share, looked at their parents’ toys and toys from Victorian times. They explored the different materials that they were made out of and how these have changed. As an on-going literacy project the children wrote pages for their own non-fiction book from their own observations. They put these together and designed their own covers before putting their book together. We visited the Museum of Childhood in Bethnal Green where we had a talk on Moving Toys and explored all the toys on display. Our mum helpers spotted many of the toys that they had played with. On our Parents & Grandparents toy afternoon, the attics were searched and a variety of well-played with toys were brought in for the children to look at and ask questions about. I am not sure who enjoyed it more. Friend Portraits In art the children explored using fine and broad pens to make marks then they sat opposite a friend and looked at them very carefully before recording their observations. The results were a delight to see as each child had focused on different elements. The display deservedly remained in class for a long period of time. Farm Trip A Fly on the Wall - Year One
