Brentwood School Preparatory 45 Chicks Fairytales A Fly on the Wall - Year One Surprising Seeds At the beginning of our Trinity term Surprising Seeds became our topic. We had lots of seedlings growing in our classroom to be transplanted into the walled garden. There was quite a competition with the weeds but we now have sweetcorn, runner beans and sunflowers growing into the Michaelmas term. One of our dads, who is a farmer, came in with lots of examples of the plants he grows locally including linseed and marrow fat peas. The children were able see the plants that still had their roots on as they had been growing the day before and then observe and feel the final products as well as what they were made into. His flour is milled locally and sold as flour with the name of the farm on each bag. Every child was given a packet of cake mix to take home and make.
