Brentwood Preparatory School Magazine

77 Brentwood School Preparatory Maths Week In Maths Week the children thought about how Maths was actually all around us and in almost everything that we see and do! The children were challenged to be problem solvers and were introduced to a wealth of Mathematical language as they spoke about their work. Through the week the children participated in a carousel of activities around the school working together to discover different methods or approaches to solve problems and sharing their thinking and findings. Our week finished with more challenges provided by the Happy Puzzle Company where the children worked in teams to solve problems. Conker Maths Outdoor Maths and collecting conkers proved great fun for 3CK! We went outside as our new whiteboard was being fitted in the classroom, and found a grand total of 820 conkers by the rugby pitches. We found this out by grouping them into piles of 10, and after estimating that we thought there were 700, we counted in 10s to find the correct figure. We then used all of the conkers to see how far they could measure along the rugby pitch touchline! Proof that Maths can really be a lot of fun – and afterwards you can play conker matches against all your friends. 3CK and Mr Kitley Year 3 Maths Clocks Can you tell the time? Year 3 and their crazy clocks can!
