Brentwood Preparatory School Incipe 2017-18

Brentwood School Preparatory 11 Valete Katy Corp Katy (or Katie, we were never quite sure...) joined Brentwood Prep School in September 2012, and her passion for languages was immediately evident. Upon the retirement of the previous Head of Modern Foreign Languages, Katy became Head of French and a much loved teacher of this subject throughout the school. However, she was more than just a teacher, putting a smile on the faces of everyone around her, pupils, staff and parents alike. As co-founder of the oversubscribed knitting club, she inspired girls and boys with her ‘basic ribbing’, ‘garter stitch’ and ‘reverse shaping’. Often mistaken for a model for Cath Kidson, Katy always looked ‘chic’, the only exception to this being her ‘holiday trousers’, which would make an annual appearance for the pilgrimage to Mersea! As a dedicated professional, for whom organisation was key, her planning for the following week was always completed before she left school on a Friday. All this, despite being a rebel at heart! In her final term, Katy was frequently asked what she intended to do during her retirement, oh, how she wished! She leaves Brentwood to take up a part-time teaching post at Woodlands School, to enable her to spend more time with her family. Katy, her camping chair and her shoes will be sorely missed! It was a sad farewell to our Head Porter, Ivan Lincoln, who retired after nine years at Brentwood School, seven of which have been with us at the Prep. The Early Years and KS1 staff surpassed themselves with a wonderful musical send off and children from all year groups presented him with beautiful cards that they had lovingly created. Mrs Kriel and Mrs Dinning were there too, to present Ivan with a gift from FoBS. Ivan made a very touching speech and was overwhelmed when his leaving present from the Prep, a new bike, was wheeled in! We will all miss his helpfulness, smiling face and his chats and we wish him a long and happy retirement. ‘Ivan does everything’ (sung to the tune of ‘I’d do Anything’ from Oliver!) He’d do anything for Prep, yes anything And we ask everything of him Poor Ivan! He’d go anywhere with tables and a chair For our jobs everywhere he’s been He’d unlock the gate, come what may Even when we’re late, everyday Clear up lots of stuff in his way And he’d never moan.....well anyway Building lots-of-things to keep our School-stuff in Yes he’d do anything, anything for Prep Ivan you’re the best, we’re sorry for our mess And endless work requests you see It’s just that You do like a chat but we’re ok with that And all our biscuits come for free Though the car park sometimes can be bad And all of us often drive you mad Having Mart and Pete must make you glad But before you know, you’re off again You get post for us and sort our minibus Yes you do lots of things, lots of things for Prep What are we to do, with all our blocked up loos And children’s missing shoes Oh dear, can’t find them Setting up a tent and fixing things that bent There’s just no other man we’d choose Now there’s-time to cycle everyday And Popmaster’s calling you to play Take Theresa strolling in the hay And there’s time for church..... on Sunday So, take, good-care-of-you as we, would, always-do Cos you mean everything...... , everything...... to Prep Ivan Lincoln
