Brentwood Preparatory School Incipe 2017-18

Brentwood School Preparatory 27 Charity We have had another memorable year in terms of our charity work. Over 20 charities including UK Sepsis Trust, Crisis at Christmas, MacMillan, Dominica Hurricane Relief and Jeans for Genes to name a few benefited from your generosity. Children learn in so many ways but inspiring speakers in assemblies certainly make them reflect on their own lives and the sacrifices that others make for us. Thank you to all the parents who give so thoughtfully, as we raised in excess of £10,000 this year. My class (6JS) had the privilege of organising a cake sale to raise money for Dominica because of the destructive and merciless hurricane, named Maria, which destroyed most of the homes. The terrifying typhoon struck Dominica, breaking thousands of hearts, homes and families. Many people are still living without proper homes, because a house isn’t a home when it is bereft of a roof, door or wall. 15 people perished in the fearful depths of this mighty storm. 99% of the houses’ roofs were blown away and many children still aren’t able to go to school. So, on Friday morning, children (and teachers) rushed rapidly to the mouth-watering cakes like moths drawn to a flame. The cake sale looked as if a rainbow had been poured over the tables because of the millions of colours. There were scrumptious cupcakes decorated with the Dominican flag and different cupcakes with a heavy swirl of icing which melted slowly in your mouth. Three white tables were full to the brim with cakes of all shapes and sizes. At the end of break time we had sold every single one of our cakes and raised a whopping £516 to donate to the people affected by hurricane Maria in Dominica. Just to know that I have helped these people makes my heart swell with happiness. Macmillan Coffee Cake Sale for Dominica Children in Need Jeans for Genes
