Brentwood Preparatory School Incipe 2017-18
Brentwood School Preparatory 29 House Reports House General Knowledge In Michaelmas Term, we had our House General Knowledge competition. To decide who was representing our house, we had a little quiz. I was representing Year 5 for the competition. We were all really excited about it and when it was time to start, I memorised everything I knew. As the rounds progressed, we couldn’t see how many points each team had. My team predicted where we would come. In the end, we thought we would come 2nd . We went through more rounds until Mr Whiskerd announced where we came. He said “In joint second place, Heseltine and…” my team all held their breath. And then he announced that Quennell was also in second place. A huge cheer erupted from all of Bayman. After about a minute of cheers, we were given the trophy. Hooray for Bayman! House Cross Country At the start line everyone got ready to get up and then Tobi got ahead of the race. Everyone caught up to the leader and when everyone did one lap it was tight. Tobi broke free of the pack and went ahead. At the end Heseltine won the whole cross country. I think Bayman came third in this cross country, maybe next year we will win. Before the race, everyone was very nervous because of the long struggle ahead, but luckily Mrs Cooke made everyone calm down and lead us with a warm-up and a series of stretches to get us ready for the race. Then came the big moment, we all lined up on the start line (it was very cramped), the whistle was blown and the race began… The race started at a fast pace and everyone was fighting for a good position. At the point where everyone had settled, the race was just next to all the parents, there was so much encouragement! As we were nearing the woods the best cross-country runners started to show. When I got to the middle of the race I was relieved that it was almost over but I was scared that I would be in a bad position. Better start picking up the pace! We got to the last quarter of the race and everyone was getting really tired. When everyone could see the finish line, they started getting into a sprint, so that’s what I did Just before the race ended and we came past the final bend, all the mums and dads were cheering everyone on to give that final push to get across the finish line. Ted came 2nd and Robbie came 3rd. After the race everyone was so glad it was over and went to congratulate each other. Bayman Where do we meet? Music Room Who are the Heads of House? Mrs Long and Mr Barber Who are the House captains? Millan Mistry, Elizabeth Jones, Nithya Maroju, Muhammad Ali, Katherine Hak and Archie Stronach Fun facts. Mr Bayman’s full name was Percy Alfred Bayman. He was a land developer and gave a lot of land, including our woods, to Brentwood School as well as to local hospitals in the area. He died at the age of 57 in 1939. It has been another bumper year of achievements for Bayman with several big wins, including House Public Speaking. House meetings have provided an opportunity to explore themes and ideas outside the classroom with the children themselves contributing much of what has been shared. The children have enjoyed working as a team and making friends across different year groups. The support that the older children offer is an excellent way to help the younger children which can then be passed on as the children move up the school. The Bayman year through the children’s eyes… Year Three House Football Our team was really looking forward to House Football because we all like to play football at break time. In the first match we played against Heseltine and we were really excited but knew it would be one of our toughest matches. First to score was Heseltine with a break away from their half, but we equalised in the last few minutes. Our next match was against Quennell and we won 3-0 with some good team work and amazing goal-keeping. In our last match we played Lawrence and beat them 3-0. Unfortunately on goal difference we came second and Heseltine came first. Well done to the team, maybe next time we can win it. Senior House Netball House Netball this year was extremely fun since we had the chance to play a fun yet competitive game of netball with our friends! This year, Bayman won the tournament, with the help of two great players from Year 5; Alyssa and Oyinda. Without them, we would have not been able to compete. All the games that we played were 5 minutes per half, which meant the score of the matches were very close. Congratulations to everyone who took part. I know that the Year 5s will also win it for us next year. Go Bayman! Senior House Swimming Gala This year’s swimming gala was split up into year groups instead of having separate girls’ and boys’ races. Racing against the boys was difficult as they are much faster than us, even though we came a respectable second place. The swimming was very exciting as I had the opportunity to try a stroke that I had not tried before; butterfly. This was not a competitive race so we enjoyed cheering our friends on from other houses. However, the swimming was not my favourite part of the gala. My favourite part was the competitiveness from all the houses, predicting the final score. Well done Quennell for coming first, but I am sure that Bayman will win next year; Go Bayman!
