Brentwood Preparatory School Incipe 2017-18

Brentwood School Preparatory 30 We had plenty of second place finishes in House Netball & Football competitions with some outstanding contributions from individuals. The House Cross-Country (held on an unseasonably warm day in March!) was another proud success for us as we stormed in with an overall win for the event and some excellent individual placings too. Our first place at Sports Day finished the year off brilliantly. Not to be outshone however, the non sporting events have also yielded success for Heseltine this year. We came a very close second in both the House Reading and House Public Speaking events, once again showing the multi-talented nature of the children and their confidence to perform to an audience. Unfortunately, we have not been so successful in our quest for the House Point Cup this year and this is something, along with the Good Conduct Cup, we would like all Heseltinies to strive towards next year. In House Meetings this year we have been treated to a number of excellent musical performances along with some presentations showcasing the interests of the children. Our thanks go to the House Captains and Prefects for this year who have done a sterling job representing their House and acted as wonderful role models for the younger children in Heseltine. House Public Speaking House Public Speaking is a house event for Year Six. Everyone has to write their own speech and then teachers choose who’s in it. When I was told I was picked, I was overwhelmed and thrilled like anyone would be. The day came closer, I had to practise a lot. When the day arrived it was nerve racking. Mr Whiskerd and Mr Murley were judging us. Everyone was amazing, especially the jokes they used! Overall, everyone did brilliantly and the House winners were Bayman! House Reading On the 15th March, it was the day of the House Reading competition; everyone who was competing was very excited but nervous at the same time. House Reading had changed this year, and every house dressed up from a different book. Bayman, our house, dressed up from Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. By the time it was lunch all of the competitors hearts were beating wildly. Now it was time to speak loudly and confidently. Despite all of our nerves, we amazingly won the competition! We celebrated in house meetings. Heseltine Where do we meet? Main Hall Who are the Heads of House? Mr Kitley and Mrs Roberts Who are the House captains? Lucy Gough, Dmitri Molostvov, Amber Penman, Advaith Badhrinath, Flinn Charleston and Amelia Dinning Fun facts. In 1907, Evelyn Heseltine, a wealthy stockbroker, bought Roden House and donated it and its land to Brentwood School- the sports fields are named after him. He then paid for the school’s first swimming pool. Congratulations to Mr and Mrs Kitley on the occasion of their marriage this year! It has been a year of change for Heseltine as 2017 saw the departure of two long standing House Tutors, Mr Turner and Mrs Woodford. It would be remiss of us not to thank them for their many years of hard work and support for the children of Heseltine. Their yellow boots are now being filled by Mr Kitley and Mrs Roberts and we are both very excited to lead Heseltine to even greater heights! It has been a successful year for Heseltine in the sporting arena, particularly on the rugby pitches and in the swimming pool, where we won both trophies convincingly. In our captain’s eyes ...Year 5 House Rugby 2018 was a very close and enjoyable tournament. The games were tough and that made everyone play better. All the teams were very supportive and any team could have won. Everyone knew there had to be a 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th place. I’m delighted to announce 1st place was Heseltine, 2nd Lawrence, 3rd Bayman and 4th Quenell. The players in Heseltine communicated very well, encouraged each other and never even thought of giving up. We really wanted to win and put our heart and soul into it and it all payed off. As captain of the team I was very proud of all of my teammates.
