Brentwood Preparatory School Incipe 2017-18

Brentwood School Preparatory 31 House Cross Country On the last day of Lent term, Lawrence house walked out onto the fields, filled with determination. Everybody represented the house brilliantly and showed great team spirit and support for each other. Mr Prideaux and Mr Edwards were extremely proud of all the Lawrence runners who showed great grit and perseverance to get round what was a challenging course with no one running out of puff before the finishing line. Lawrence came 3rd overall. Swimming galas As always, the galas were fiercely contested and the effort put in by all children was superb. Lawrence worked very hard as a team, and as individuals to produce a great result. Sports Day The sun was out early on Sports Day and, with the spectators out in force and the houses in their enclosures, the scene was set for an epic day of athletics. Lawrence were in good voice to cheer on their housemates in the different races. The vocal support was matched by the fantastic efforts on the track by everyone in Lawrence. It was a tough day results wise, but the attitude was top notch, and children putting in notable performances included Tade Ibrahim, James Farrow, Fraser Forbes, Freya White and Scarlett Johnson among others. The Lawrence Year 6s also managed an impressive tug of war victory over Quennell. Overall, Lawrence came 3rd , well done! 2017/18 has been another positive year for Lawrence, seeing children achieve academically as well as emotionally and socially in a range of roles such as mentors, buddies, reading partners, actors and sportsmen/woman. Lawrence have played a vital role in the continued wellbeing of Brentwood Prep, and have made their house tutors very proud. 2018/19 brings a new house tutor to Lawrence. Miss Scotland will take over from Mr Prideaux, who is starting a new adventure on the other side of the world with his family. Miss Scotland has big shoes to fill, but she is raring to go and looking forward to lead Lawrence to many future successes. Lawrence Where do we meet? Drama Studio Who are the Heads of House? Mr Edwards and Mr Prideaux Who are the House captains? Charlie Whitney, Amman Johar, Emma Burgess, Finlay Pattison, Luke Fehily and Evie Harris Fun facts. James Lawrence was the Chair of Governors in 1928. He had the building that housed the gym, swimming pool, rifle range and squash courts named after him. He introduced squash to the school and presented a cup for it. He was considered “a graceful and admirable man” This year for Lawrence has been one of great effort and perseverance which has not resulted in the awards and accolades of previous years. That being said, Lawrence has competed admirably in all house competitions and its children have demonstrated the Virtue, Learning and Manners on all occasions, accepting defeat with grace. House Rugby During the months of December and February, Lawrence boys from each year group competed with the other houses to see which house would prevail as overall winner. Pupils from Year 4 and 5 competed fiercely, and were both able to finish second in their competitions. Years 3 and 6 also showed great spirit, finishing fourth and third respectively in their groups. This meant that Lawrence finished third in the end. House Football In Michaelmas term each year group took turns to compete in the eagerly anticipated football competition. Results were mixed, but an honourable mention must go to Lawrence’s Year 4s who, without any substitutes, managed to win their competition by playing with great teamwork. Lawrence finished 3rd overall House Netball Lawrence found the netball competition tough this year, but will take these experiences, and, along with everything they have learnt in games and PE lessons, will endeavour to build on upon them to achieve greater successes in next year’s tournament. The House General Knowledge Quiz During the Michaelmas term, every child in Lawrence House competed to earn a place in the general knowledge team. The successful four pupils then pitted their wits against the best the other three houses could muster. The team comprised of Maia Pattison, Sean Read, Arun Kang and Fraser Forbes, although Freya White was called in a late notice to ably replace an ill Maia. The questions came thick and fast and the competition was fierce, however a few slip ups alongside a bit of bad luck with the questions conspired to relegate the Lawrence team to fourth place. House Public Speaking At the beginning of Trinity it was the turn of Lawrence’s public speakers to impress the judges in an attempt to retain the first place trophy won by last year’s Lawrence team. Our house representatives were Scarlett Johnson, Amman Johar and Finlay Pattison and our reserve was Lucy Shackleton. Mr Whiskerd and the head of public speaking in the senior school, Mr Murley, judged the competition. Although Lawrence finished fourth overall, we were very proud of the performances of each team member. It was a great event that was enjoyed by all.
