Brentwood Preparatory School Incipe 2017-18
Brentwood School Preparatory 32 Reading Competition Our team of Seerat Sandhu, Nina Pert, Orla Broderick, Eva Sandhu, Jonathan Dedman, Gloria Khalil, Sid Small and Jessica Jackson produced one of the highlights of the year when winning the House Reading Competition. Danny the Champion of the World by Roald Dahl was the focus of our presentation, and what a performance it was. Everybody spoke with assurance, clarity and expression and were worthy winners. Some of our competitors had read their parts so much that they knew the words off by heart. Just remember though, that if you are in the team next year to take a glance down at the script every so often or you might get marked down for “speaking and not reading.” In a world where extravagant praise is often given for simply good efforts, it is fair to say on this occasion you were all “awesome.” The prize of a hardback copy of Danny and a Treasury of Roald Dahl novel extracts will be a fitting reminder of our performance to all who read them in the School Library. Very well done to all of you. Public Speaking Our team of Alice Stonebridge, Tia Squibb and Jonathan Dedman spoke brilliantly and in many people’s view were the stand out performers but we had to be content with second spot. Jonathan was awarded the individual prize and the honour of presenting the vote of thanks at Speech Day. Very well done to you all. Message from Mr Matthams It is also the start of a new chapter in my life as I leave the Prep School after 25 years, 24 of those as Quennell House Master. I would like to thank all of the hundreds of children who have been members of Quennell House during my tenure and for providing me with happy memories with their performances and effort in so many different activities. I will remember you all and greatly miss most of you. Quennell Where do we meet? Library Who are the Heads of House? Mr Matthams and Mrs Ombok Who are the House captains? Elsie Playle, Harry Lee, Tia Squibb, Jamie Venter, Solari Robert-Tariah and Elliot Gibson Fun facts. Canon William Quennell was a much loved son of Brentwood School. He was a pupil, master, headmaster and Chair of the Governors of the school. The 1908 Brentwoodian contains a heartfelt obituary for a dedicated and inspirational man “The school cherished his presence and will cherish his memory with loyal devotion”. Congratulations to Mr and Mrs Holtby this year on the birth of Angus. Football After several competitive matches our Year Three, Five and Six boys finished third while our Year Fours came fourth. Overall we finished in fourth place. Cross-Country The usual tremendous levels of effort were again on show as we secured third place in the Year Three, Four and Five competitions. Our stand out performers, however, were the Year Sixes as they dominated to win their event. This left as overall runners up. Hockey Years Four and Five came third, Year Six were runners up, while Year Three won their event. We finished as overall runners up. Swimming There were some fantastic swimming galas with many close and competitive races. Our Year Threes came fourth, Year Four were third and Year Five were joint runners up. Our strongest performers were in Year Six as they convincingly won their event. Overall we finished third. Netball We had mixed fortunes in the netball competitions. Years Three and Six were runners up, Year Five came fourth, while Year Four won their event. This left us, again, as overall runners up. Rugby We were not a House of Rugby! Year Three finished third while the other years all came fourth. Inevitably, fourth place overall was the final outcome. General Knowledge Well done to our team of Aakriti Sharma, Josh Owen, Emily Davies and Elsie Playle who coped well with answering questions in front of the whole school. We ended up in third place.
