Brentwood Preparatory School Incipe 2017-18

Brentwood School Preparatory 35 As I went into the final I was both nervous and excited. I had finished my semi-final before the other group and I was keen to find out who I was facing. My opponent was Elliot, one of my friends in the class. At the break before the match we had a bit of a laugh and a joke, “Let’s get it over with as we’ve got a rugby match to get to!” but that didn’t go to plan... Once the match began we both got off to a strong start. I didn’t expect so many people to be there. At the beginning Elliot had a ‘Z’ so I went on a bit of a run; that ended quickly though because soon Elliot got rid of it and did his first peel. The game was on! As the match continued, the letters you can pick from started running down in the middle. We both had some difficult ones and it was getting harder and harder to use them. As I got rid of my second last letter I had a sudden wave of excitement rush over me. “One more letter!” I thought. My last letter was a ‘K’ and I put it on the end of ‘din’ to make ‘dink’. The judges had time to confer if it was right and gave back a nod. I was Bananagrams Champion! But I didn’t have too long to celebrate because Elliot and I had to get to the rugby match on time. By the way, we won the rugby match. Bananagram Challenge ananagrams is a fun and educational game, it helps us to learn more words for our vocabulary. s the competition started, I was filled with a mixture of feelings. ervous, excited, happy, determined and challenged are words to describe my feelings. bigail, Ned and Emily were my first opponents. earing the end of the first round, it was so close, lots of pressure. nyone could have won! oal!!!! I won round 1! eaching Round 2 was a great achievement and experience, I was so happy! nd I was the youngest player to get to Round 2. y opponents in round 2 were very good and the game was very close but I was knocked out! adly I did not make it to the next round but I still love the game and I will make sure to play next year and get further. The Bananagrams Final House Reading This year’s House Reading Competition saw a new format with each House choosing their favourite book. The children in each House then dressed up as characters from their House book, and the readings were also taken from it. The books chosen were: Bayman – Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, J K Rowling, Heseltine – Alice in Wonderland, Lewis Carroll, Lawrence – The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, C S Lewis and Quennell – Danny the Champion of the World, Roald Dahl. The children from Higgs dressed up as characters from the Julia Donaldson books and we were lucky enough to have Year Two join us to recite ‘Question Time’ by Julia Donaldson. All the children read really well and, while the judges were adding up their scores, Mr Barber kept everybody entertained by teaching a song called ‘Book ‘Em’, which was all about books. Listening to the competitors was an absolute joy and a timely reminder of both the importance of reading in a child’s education and the sheer joy and memories that such themed days can inspire. The final scores were: Quennell 379 points, Heseltine 377 points, Bayman 339 points and Lawrence 333 points. Well done Quennell! Don’t gobblefunk around with words, Roald Dahl, The BFG B A N A N A G R A M S As well as hoping to inspire the children to read, we also managed to raise £344.00 which we are donating to http://www.thebookbus.org/. This charity sends books to poor parts of the world, with the message that reading is the key to education and success. Thank you to all.
