Brentwood Preparatory School Incipe 2017-18
A Fly On The Wall - Reception Brentwood School Preparatory 43 After the half term the children brought in their homemade telescopes and were shocked to find the classrooms in darkness. The stars soon twinkled however and they used their telescopes to explore the night sky. It was great fun! We really enjoyed reading Whatever Next by Jill Murphy and thought about what we would take to the moon. The children even made their own constellations. The term ended with two wonderful Nativity performances and we were so proud of the children’s confidence. As the Lent term started we were pleased to see a flurry of snow as it was a perfect accompaniment to our Frozen topic. Our Reception children returned to school to discover their toys had been frozen in blocks of ice! The children were immediately drawn to investigate what had happened and quickly set about trying to free the toys. Some children decided to rub the ice because they had warm hands which could melt the ice. Other children suggested placing the ice near the window so the sun could melt it and some thought the radiator would help too. With lots of rubbing, turning and patience the children were delighted to free some of their toys from the ice! Towards half-term we began our Out of Eggs topic. We made bird feeders to look after the birds that visit our school grounds. The children learnt the names of a number of common British birds and were keen to spot them. One morning the children were staggered to find a large golden egg had arrived in the classroom. Several suggestions were made as to the contents and the children were thrilled when it “hatched” to reveal a baby penguin!
