Brentwood Preparatory School Incipe 2017-18
Brentwood School Preparatory 46 The second half of Lent term invited the children to ‘Come and Play’ with a topic based on toys. This focused on the history of toys and their materials and how these have changed over time. A teddy bears’ picnic helped to launch the topic and spark the children’s interest as they brought in their own toys from home and enjoyed lots of teddy bear themed activities such as learning about the history of how teddy bears got their name. The children studied Andy Warhol to create our own toy themed art and created our own history book by discussing their parents’ and grandparents’ toys. The topic finished with a much enjoyed trip to the Museum of Childhood and inviting our parents and grandparents in to school for the afternoon to share and discuss toys from their childhood. A Fly On The Wall - Year One The beginning of Lent term was ‘Very Chilly’ as the children became explorers in our Geography based topic. They studied maps, atlases and globes to learn about the polar regions of the world, discovered the continents and oceans and investigated features of polar animals including their diet, habitat and adaptations for survival. We read ‘Where Bear?’ and created our own versions of the story, found out about the lives of Inuit people and were even visited by the explorer Ernest Shackleton! As a surprise finale for the afternoon the children became explorers out in the cold and roasted marshmallows with Mrs Challis. Luckily there was some hot chocolate to warm them up once they came inside!
