Brentwood Preparatory School Incipe 2017-18

Brentwood School Preparatory 48 A Fly On The Wall - Year Two Year Two started Michaelmas term with a quest; to find the Minions who had arrived in Essex and give them a flavour of life in Brentwood. This provided a geographical focus for our topic on the local area. The children successfully located the Minions during a trip to “Build a Bear” at Lakeside and also experienced the Tesco “Farm to Fork” trail, where they found out about the origins of the foods they see on the supermarket shelves. The children then helped the Minion visitors to learn about Brentwood and the history of the school, before focusing their studies further afield to learn about Costa Rica; one of the countries which produce a Minion’s favourite food …. bananas! The term came to a close with the Key Stage One Christmas production, where the Year Two children proudly took on the speaking parts, impressing us all with their confidence in front of an audience. In the lead-up to Christmas, our focus switched to History and the children learnt about the Victorian period. They investigated different Victorian inventions and presented their findings to the rest of the class, before getting into the festive spirit and learning about the Christmas traditions which originated in the Victorian period. The classrooms smelt fragrant with the aroma of traditional Christmas cakes which the children made and decorated in traditional Victorian style.
