Brentwood Preparatory School Incipe 2017-18

Brentwood School Preparatory 51 A Fly On The Wall - Year Three Year Three enjoyed finding out about life in Ancient Egypt. While bravely exploring pyramids, tombs, the afterlife and mummies, they found out that a tomb is a bit like a cave inside a pyramid. The tombs were for the pharaohs, who were like the kings of Egypt. Inside the tombs were lots of treasures, like gold and other items the kings might need in the afterlife. The children learnt how the Ancient Egyptians watered their crops using a shaduf, and imagined what it would be like to live in those times. They even managed to write their names in hieroglyphics to create their own cartouche! A wonderful time was had by Year Three at Brentwood Cathedral. As part of the ‘Places of Worship’ topic in RE, the children walked to the Cathedral and listened with interest to the Cathedral’s Deacon. They made some very insightful comments; Thomas said, ‘Everything you need to help you pray to God is here,’ and Morayo thought ‘You might light a candle to help remember someone you loved who has died.’ On thinking about the artefacts they had seen, Rafferty said his favourite was ‘the golden chandelier, because it looked beautiful and shimmered in the sunlight’. Robert liked ‘the big candle which shone 2017 on the floor. There was gold on the bottom which had big swirls all over it.’ Lucy’s favourite was ‘the eagle lectern which sparkled in the bright sunlight filtering through the stained glass windows.’ The children enjoyed exploring the artefacts and experiencing the quiet, peaceful atmosphere, which really brought their learning in the classroom to life.
