Brentwood Preparatory School Incipe 2017-18
Brentwood School Preparatory 64 A Fly On The Wall - Year Six Jersey was the trip most of us were waiting for. Days of packing and excitement. The time had come. We came to school on Monday 2nd April at 06:00. We dragged our suitcases to the coach, said goodbye to our parents, and off we went. Once we arrived at Jersey, we went to Pizza Express for our lunch. The next day we went to the zoo. We saw some very cute animals like the meerkats and then left with some gifts. Every day we had netball or football training, but skipping to the day of the tournament, it was a very important day. We were split into two groups and played against all the teams - we even played against the other team in our school! One of our teams came 2nd and the other team came 5th. Not bad I guess! Then we walked over to the beach which took us 20 minutes to walk there. Luckily we got there after Mr Sawyer’s map guiding! The final day at Jersey had come. We arrived at the airport very miserable. Whilst we waited to board the plane we were told who won the prizes! We got jelly beans, a pen, and some wacky sunglasses! Overall we had an amazing time with friends and teachers. Thank you teachers! During the Easter holidays, Brentwood Prep School sent two Netball Teams and two Football teams made up of pupils from Year 6 to participate in the Jersey Games 2018. Mr Sawyer, Miss Frank, Miss Johnstone, Mr Sealey and thirty four pupils set out for Gatwick Airport at the crack of dawn on Monday 2nd April. Having taken off and touched down successfully, we explored our lodgings at the Merton Hotel and acquainted ourselves with the waterpark adjacent to the hotel to ready ourselves for the sporting action to follow. On Tuesday, with Football and Netball masterclasses complete, packed lunches were dispatched in world record time, allowing for rapid deployment to Jersey Zoo, also known as Durrell Wildlife Park and featuring in the ITV series The Durrells, or, for those of us who believe that ‘books are always better than the film’, My Family and Other Animals. On Wednesday, Scarlett’s birthday, our coaching sessions were very productive. Whether on court or on pitch, all of our pupils excelled themselves in respect of not only their skills but also their desire to support and get along well with their peers and the pupils from other schools participating. The Aqua Splash Water Park made for an entertaining afternoon involving floats, water slides and rubber rings, all sloshing about in a few hundred thousand litres of freezing cold water, some of which was actually outside. Thursday was Tournament Day. Two evenly matched teams in each discipline of Football and Netball embarked for our playing venues. We reiterated the key message that we’d preached to all of the boys and girls during the week - having fun, helping each other out and making new friends were the benchmarks by which tournament success would be measured, not placing or medals. All the staff were so proud of the attitude and performance of the pupils, and our mini awards ceremony afterwards reflected that with attitude and endeavour rewarded over and above goalscoring achievements in either discipline. One of the girls’ teams (The Lions) and one of the boys’ teams (The Blues) both reached the tournament finals which was a splendid achievement against some extremely strong opposition. The children then had a ball on the beach, with artistry and adventure on show in spades. Friday, with heavy hearts, was time to come home. I was delighted that the check in desk staff at the airport went out of their way to commend our pupils for their politeness - Virtue, Learning & Manners in action and four very proud teachers. A fantastic time was had by all. Jersey was my favourite trip, it was absolutely amazing! The room was very nice especially the fact that Olivia, Tia and I got two joint rooms, one of which was the hotel’s honeymoon suite! After we had arrived at the hotel we went swimming in the hotel’s swimming pool, which included a water slide! The flight to Jersey was not very long, and surprisingly we weren’t very loud with all of the children chattering away although I felt sorry for the people who had to sit next to us! We woke up at about 7:15 each day. We would eat at around 8:00 and then left the hotel at about 9:30 for our training. We had netball for about 2 hours. The boys played football, they didn’t play netball! After the first session we then went to the Durrell Wildlife Zoo.. Our group LOVED the Gorillas, they were so funny. They should join the school’s Gymnastics team! After the second session we went to the Aqua Splash Waterpark. My friends and I went down one of the slides together, where you went down in a rubber ring, it was really funny when Lucy got stuck! The next day we had the netball tournament and had to leave earlier. We had two teams, The Brentwood Lions and The Brentwood Tigers, I was in the Brentwood Lions. We had a great time but were defeated in the finals coming 2nd overall. Then it came to the last day, I was so sad to go because I had had such an amazing time. One last thing we did before heading for the airport was the SWIMMING POOL! I couldn’t stay there forever and my parents were probably missing me so I had to go home but I will always remember the Jersey Trip because it was the best thing ever! Jersey
