Brentwood Preparatory School Incipe 2017-18

Brentwood School Preparatory 74 Music In EYFS the children have the opportunity to sing and play instruments in their weekly music lessons. We have particularly enjoyed learning new counting and action songs and have listened and moved to a wide variety of music. In Year One we have enjoyed playing chime bars and listening carefully to pitch differences. We have developed our musical skills so that we can focus our listening and answer questions about speed, dynamics and timbre. In Year Two we have weekly recorder and Choir lessons. We have the opportunity to perform our recorder and singing skills at the Christmas Fayre and at the Moving On Assembly in June. This year’s Young Voices was amazing, we had the best time imaginable! On Friday 2nd February 2018, we went to Young Voices. When we got to School, we powered through our first three lessons, it was really hard as we had a test and we were so excited we were jumping out of our seats. After break, we were given our T-Shirts to put in our desks. Then we lined up to go to the Senior School for lunch. It was really yummy! Mr Barber realised that if he didn’t get us to the coach in the next half an hour, we would burst with excitement! Once we got back to school, we changed into our T-Shirts and grabbed our packed dinner and got into our seats on the coach. Into the 02. We dropped off our tins for Teenage Cancer Trust. Once we had passed security, we got on the escalator and got sat in our seats, Block 106. The rehearsal was really fun. One of the singers helping us was called Nick, he looked a lot like Olly Murs. Our conductor was called David Lawrence, helped by Andy, the Urban Strides choreographer. It was really funny when Andy made David do a crazy dance move to signal the dance break. At five o’clock the rehearsal finished and we had our packed dinners. We got to watch Urban Strides dance while we were eating. They were so cool. The show started at seven, but the parents filed in at six, and the tension grew! We were all trying to spot our parents in the crowd. If we hadn’t spotted them before the lights went out we wouldn’t have seen then at all, it was that dark. It was starting! The first note played and we were off. We started off with ‘Name that Toon’. Then we did ‘Singing Together’. It was thrilling as there were 7,705 kids singing their hearts out. When we got to ‘Anytime You Need A Friend’ all of the row had their arms around each other and we were swaying. When the ‘Pop Medley’ came up we had nearly lost our voices but we had to sing to our favourite song. Then, the devastating moment came, the last song. We sang with pride and joy AND WE LOVED IT! No-one wanted it to be over. Mr Prideaux said that anyone who fell asleep on the coach got a housepoint! By the time we got back to school it must have been ten o’clock. All I can say is we were in no mood to go to bed - we don’t think anyone got a house point that night! Prep3-7 Young Voices Music is always fun in Prep 3-7! Our two musical events of the year take place in the Michaelmas term with the Christmas Production, and in Lent term with our Easter Chapel Service. This year at Christmas we enjoyed performing the production of “Hey Ewe!” and at Easter we learnt lots of new songs and script words for our Chapel Service, however, we didn’t forget to sing our all-time favourite - Spring Chicken!
