Brentwood Preparatory School Incipe 2017-18

Brentwood School Preparatory 76 Science Science Week Prep 3-7 had an uplifting start to Science Week when Mad Science joined us. In assembly, we made ping pong balls levitate using a straw and a hair dryer. When we tried a beach ball, however, the hair dryer was not powerful enough so out came the ‘Troll’s hair dryer’ to dramatic effect! Great excitement was had by the young scientists who created slime and fantastic flyers. Careful folding enabled the scientists to make their own flying machines which used lift and thrust to overcome gravity and drag. Each afternoon, a school full of lab coated scientists investigated bubbles, tornadoes, measuring, rocket mice and spaghetti structures. There was a real buzz and the school was a hive of activity. The children enjoyed the awe and wonder of our wonderful world during Science Week. So, budding scientists, keep looking, questioning and investigating… Healthy Living Week As part of our learning in PSHE Prep 3-7 had a Healthy Living Week. The week had three different focus areas: healthy eating, a healthy body and a healthy mind. The children really got into the spirit of things with nearly every child attempting the “Healthy Living Challenge” which encouraged them to choose a focus and complete a task a day for seven days during half term. The range of activities that the children had done was amazing and it was fantastic to learn that children had been learning new sports such as archery, golf and fencing, and completing staggering achievements such as climbing mountains and wild lake swimming. Children who had chosen the healthy eating focus were equally ambitious trying new foods including passion fruit and mango. Some children even chose fruit rather than cake when they went out for a meal - that is true dedication! It was also good to hear that many children chose to improve their mind and we had children who went to bed early, were kind to their friends and overcame fears. Well done to all that joined in! Meanwhile in school Mrs Lee and Miss Shewring did some healthy cooking with the children. Year Two made some very tasty spicy chicken wraps, Year One children created vegetable pizzas, while Reception made fruit kebabs and in Nursery they produced delicious fruit salad. An additional bonus of the week was that all of the children from the Nursery to Year Two had a combined yoga and mindfulness session led by Miss Seaman, our Forest Schools Leader. The children focused on their breathing and used their bodies to make lots of different shapes. It was great fun! One last highlight was our Disney Fun Fit Challenge. Each member of staff prepared a fun physical activity and the children moved around the walled garden trying each activity, accompanied by a Disney soundtrack. Great fun was had by all!
