Story Corner The Battle On an island in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, there was a castle long forgotten after World War II. It was a peaceful island, nothing happened there until one day, an evil wizard named Malvel came and started terrorising the land with evil spells and enchantments. The King and Queen, who were named Taladon and Freya, ran to their son and daughter, whose names were Tom and Elenna. Their horse and wolf were called Storm and Silver. Tom was a strong boy with blue eyes and wore diamond armour. Elenna, on the other hand, had green eyes and wore emerald armour. Tom and Elenna set off to the grassy plains where the fight between good and evil would take place. Who would win? Malvel was a skilled fighter with an enchanted sword but Tom had a diamond sword, and Elenna had a bow and arrows. Suddenly there was the sound of fire. Elenna had ignited an arrow and shot it at Malvel’s leg,but all it did was bounce off. Tom looked into Malvel’s eyes; he had pure rage and evil intent in them. Tom knew he would have to kill Malvel. Suddenly Malvel made such a quick move, it occurred in the blink of Tom and Elenna’s eye. Malvel had stabbed Elenna in the leg and tripped up Tom. Malvel pointed his sword at Tom’s heart. Tom gritted his teeth waiting for the final killing blow. Elenna had been waiting, conserving her energy and suddenly an opportunity presented itself. Elenna rushed at Malvel, punching him so hard, that he wobbled. With her other hand Elenna grabbed Tom’s sword, bringing it up and, in one clean slice, cut off Malvel’s head. As the sun was setting, and they were slowly heading home, Tom reflected on their work and felt very proud of himself and his sister. Once they had reached their destination, they proudly showed the head to their parents. There was a feast and fireworks but Elenna and Tom knew there would be more ultimate battles with other dark wizards, just like Malvel. Who is the Real Enemy? Far far away, in the Great Pacific Ocean, lived a baby turtle called Judy. The ocean was pitch black deep down but turtles usually stayed in the top part of the ocean. The ocean was calm and peaceful but it was polluted with lots of plastic. Judy was a baby turtle who was just born. Her outer shell was as green as emerald and she had flippy floppy fins. She was very clever and loved to learn. She went to Turt School (short for turtle school). Judy got into the prestigious school by winning a highly competitive swimming contest. Every night her mother would collect her from Turt School and Judy, along with her mother and her sibling, would join the black current to go home. Judy’s mother was a very kind hearted and hardworking mother and had a lot of responsibilities on her. One tranquil evening, when Judy came out from school she could not find her mother. Judy was waiting by the azure coral as her mother instructed her to do, when suddenly out of the blue, appeared 3 gigantic figures that were grey. Judy had learnt in class that they were sharks. “Oh no” gasped Judy , “I am going to be fish food!” There was chaos all around and all fish were swimming for their lives. Judy’s mother was stunned when she saw the sharks terrorizing Judy. “Mama Mia,” thought mother and slyly she whisked Judy into the black current that led home. They glided all the way home and Judy had learnt a life lesson. Mother threw a humongous party to cheer up Judy and invited all the kids in the neighborhood. But, after the party, Judy’s mother started looking pale and could not speak. She slowly started drowning and finally disappeared into the depths of the ocean. Judy did not know what was happening and was stunned. The ocean police soon found out that mother had choked on a piece of plastic during the party. This made Judy contemplate who was the bigger villain, the sharks or humans? After her mother’s death, Judy worked extra hard at school and took care of her siblings. She graduated from Coralford College and excelled in all her exams. However, the ocean environment had reached a critical phase. The corals were losing their colour and choking on plastic was the major cause of marine mortality. After finishing college, Judy fiercely fought the Coralment to recognize the urgency of the situation. She coaxed them to let her be the leader of the” protection” project. Judy worked very hard in the scorching sun, but soon realized it was a humongous task. She persevered and got all other turtles on board. One particular evening, humans saw Judy collecting plastic and decided that they will help her because they have made the marine life suffers a lot over the ages. After a few weeks, the ocean looked purer and the corals got its vibrant colour back. Brentwood School Preparatory 80
