Brentwood Preparatory School Incipe 2017-18
Brentwood School Preparatory 84 Our Sporting Achievements An extraordinarily early return to school presented the opportunity to ‘kick off’ our new sporting programme and the children certainly appeared keen to hit the ground running! We started with some Cross Country Trials to check our fitness levels and then we were straight into Rugby, Hockey, Football and Netball lessons during Games lessons, with the swimming pool awaiting our first ripples during PE lessons. The honour of being the first Brentwood Prep teams to contest a sporting fixture this academic year went to our Under 11 A&B Netball teams who hosted Ursuline Prep School. Two days later, it was the turn of our Under 10 Footballers to take to the field of play against Alleyn Court. Always tough opposition, it was most pleasing to record two victories to kick off the season. At the end of that same week came our annual Prep Rugby Tournament. The Prep had two teams in the competition, with the B Team improving as the event progressed, and the A Team finishing with a great record of three wins and one narrow defeat. This meant they took the title of Bowl winners courtesy of their five tries to one victory over Widford Lodge. In September we launched our new Prep Sport Twitter feed - @ BWPrep_Sport - and it has proved a great medium by which to provide sporting updates, snappy pictures and up to date useful information to parents and friends of Brentwood Prep. In the same month, our pupils have produced some amazing results at the two Pope & Smith Primary Schools’ Cross Country League meetings, and given the effort shown at Running Club on Tuesday and Friday lunch times, it was perhaps no surprise. In summary, we dominated the Year 5&6 Big Schools competition at Melbourne Park, winning every category bar one, where we achieved second place, before our very excited Year 3&4 Teams ventured to Chelmer Park in Chelmsford and again managed a great set of results with three teams finishing second place overall and one team finishing third. Sports Roundup At the end of September, our Under 11 Football A Team contested the Independent Schools Football Association regional round at Chigwell school. It was great to see the boys get off to a flying start and win their opening three fixtures at a canter. The fourth round brought the performance of the day, a 2 – 0 victory over the other previously unbeaten school, Duncombe, before two 0 – 0 draws (crucially) slowed the accumulation of points. A final round victory over Forest School was unfortunately not enough to see us finish top of the pile, as Duncombe had won all of their matches other than their loss to us, thus claiming the title by one single point. Whilst remaining unbeaten and defeating the eventual winners made our second place hard to take, the boys can be justifiably proud of their performance and conduct on the day. Our Under 11 Girls Hockey A Team ventured to the IAPS Regional Qualifying Round at Ipswich during October – a great standard of Hockey. We also had ABC&D Under 11 Hockey matches against Bancrofts, great performances from our Girls and Boys Under 11 Football Teams at Shenfield High School and a fourth place finish for our Under 11 A Rugby Team at the New Hall Tournament during the same month. In Netball, our Under 11 Netball travelled to Redbridge for the Forest Prep School Tournament, finishing a credible thirteenth out of twenty five teams, and our U11 Girls Football Team went from strength to strength under the watchful eyes of Mr Edwards and Mr Allen. The Boys Under 11 Boys Football A Team played in a County Cup Final Tournament at Melbourne Park, Chelmsford, after qualifying as the Shenfield School Sport Partnership representative school earlier this term. On a freezing cold day, the football played by the boys warmed the soul of Mr Sealey, and the team made it all of the way through to the final before a draw in that game resulted in a penalty shoot out to determine the winners.
