Brentwood Preparatory School Incipe 2017-18

Brentwood School Preparatory 85 Our Sporting Achievements Unfortunately we missed first, although the way the team rallied around and conducted themselves in defeat was admirable. We’d competed in three major Football tournaments already before the Christmas break without suffering a defeat in regular time. Well done team! Whilst there are a small number of fixtures played by Year 3 pupils across the year, the House Sport system provides the main backbone for competitive sport amongst this year group, and in the first event of the year there was some superb Hockey and Tag Rugby action to round off a Michaelmas Term where all pupils had worked so hard to develop their skills and understanding in both sports. Bayman House were untouchable, taking the spoils in both tournaments. During Games on the last Friday of Michaelmas Term, our Year 5 & 6 pupils had an immediate opportunity to work off their school Christmas Lunch with some fun Hockey and Football matches - the girls must have been so tired as they couldn’t even manage to take off their Christmas jumpers! We ran our school swimming galas as a single year group event and the resulting atmosphere at each event was fantastic. When all of the accumulated points were added up, it was a clear victory for Heseltine courtesy of the lowest point score; this was despite finishing last in the very first Gala, the Year 6 event, so it just goes to show that a little perseverance goes a long way. Well done to all of our swimmers for the effort and determination they demonstrated across all four events. During February, our plans to take every year group to the National School Rugby Tournament Festival at Hurstpierpoint College was scuppered not once, but twice due to poor weather conditions which unfortunately forced the cancellation of the event. Whilst it was a cold day, the 3G astro-turf surface at Noak Hill didn’t freeze and so our U11A Footballers were able to participate in the Premier League All Stars Competition overseen by Chelsea FC. After a group phase return of three wins and a draw, we won our semi final before losing again on penalties in the final. There were three good showings from our U10 Teams at the Brentwood School Sports Tournament, including Runners Up Medals for our young Chess Team. We also sent some of our young sportsmen and women off for a taste of competitive action when our Year 2 Boys and Girls Football Teams ventured to Shenfield High School for a Year 1 & 2 Tournament, with the Boys making it through to the semi-finals. We had further Cross Country success at the Shenfield School Sports Partnership Primary Cross Country Competition at Thorndon Country Park. In extremely muddy conditions, all of our runners (and staff and supporters) coped extremely well and we had a number of fantastic top ten performances. Eight pupils qualified for the Essex Primary Schools Individual Cross Country Finals held at Hadleigh Park on Friday 20th April, and here Edie and Tobi again finished within the top ten runners in the County. Still on Cross Country - our own House Cross Country event on the final day of Lent Term was a great occasion and the effort on show was amazing. Heseltine again kept up their run of good form and Mr Kitley and Mrs Roberts were left considering an extension to their trophy cabinet! With the Easter break upon us, some of our Year 6 Pupils boarded a plane bound for Jersey for a busy week of Football and Netball at the 2018 edition of the Jersey Games. Returning after Easter, Cricket and Athletics have been our focus activities in PE and Games lessons, whilst Tennis also featured via the Prep Tennis Tournament. During the first ten days of the term we managed to play a variety of matches in which over 50 boys represented the school in competitive fixtures - a fantastic achievement, and thanks go to Mr Wingrove and all of the other teachers and Coaches involved in our Cricket Programme throughout the whole of Trinity Term. A successful Cricket season followed for all of our teams across all age groups, and the positive attitude of all pupils, plus their willingness to improve skills and understanding during lessons and Co-Curricular clubs, means the further development of Cricket in the Prep School should be assured.
