MakeLunch: Myland opened every Thursday through the summer holidays at theMylandParish Halls.Eachweekwe provided free hot andhealthymeals for local familiesalongwith crafts, badge making, indoor andoutdoorgames and faceand nailpainting. Over theholidayswewelcomed 25 children and their families from theMyland area andmost of these joined usquite regularly throughout the summer.We served a totalof 101meals toourguestsaswellas sending them allawaywithextra portions forolder children athome or formeals thenext day.The projectwas supportedbyover 20 volunteersmadeup ofmembersof local churchesand theMyland CommunityCouncil.OurCounty Councillor,AnneTurrell,also visited several times. Wewere reallypleased to welcome all the familieswho came along andabout two thirdsof our guests’mealswere served to children and adults from families whowould qualify for free school meals in term-time. Inmanydifferentwayswe know thatMakeLunchwas a specialand enjoyable time forourguests and volunteers,who by the end of the summer began to feel likeonebig family!Everyone enjoyed the food and activities and lovedmaking new friends.Oneof ourmum’s toldus itwas the ‘highlight’of her holiday. TheFuture TheMake- Lunch team are currently reviewing the summerpilot to seewhat improvements could bemade. Weare hoping tobe running the project again in summer2018. Aswe prepare for thiswewillbe talking to local schools about working together toensure families are aware of theMakeLunch club and areable toaccess it.Wewill also be exploring possibilities for the right venue,whichwillallow for easy foodpreparation, provide good space for activities andbe wellpositioned for visitors.
