BigPitch The 15 Christopher Law and Hammad Jeilani Medical Students at Queen Mary University of London and Co-Founders of Apian Christopher Law and Hammad Jeilani are the founders of Apian, a healthcare drone startup delivering faster, smarter and cleaner healthcare. As the interface between the medical and drone industries, Apian provides the digital software and physical infrastructure to integrate and operate drones within the NHS at scale. Prior to the pandemic, the Executive Board of Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust commissioned and approved Apian’s business case for medical drones, which led to the Founders being appointed as Innovation Fellows. Supported by their incredible innovation programme, the startup secured funding from the UK Space Agency and European Space Agency to trial the flight of COVID-19 swabs and blood samples from Trust hospitals to Pathology First to improve testing turnaround times, reliability and sustainability. Future trials are being prepared at Alderley Lighthouse Laboratory and the Isle of Wight NHS Trust, who have asked Apian to fly time-sensitive chemotherapy across the Solent. With this traction, Apian aims to scale across the NHS through its collaborations with key industry players such as Unipart Logistics, SYNLAB and Versapak. The team will also be going out to raise venture capital in the near future.
