Creative Journeys Report 2019

16 Creative Journeys 3.3.3 Stage two: mapping survey An online survey (Online Surveys) was sent to the managers of all care homes and day care centres within the 13 councils of ECC jurisdiction via email. However, responses were only received from care homes (27 complete responses). The content of the survey was informed by findings from the case studies and explored the types of activities provided in the home, who leads the activities, enablers and barriers to providing arts activities, impacts of the activities (including any long-term impacts), and any particular qualities of arts activities and arts facilitators which facilitate positive impacts. Questions were also asked related to available resources, staffing, resident demographics, etc. At the end of the survey, the respondent was asked if their care home would be willing to participate in further research, and three care homes were invited to take part in semi-structured interviews. 3.3.4 Stage two: interviews and focus groups In each of the three homes, interviews were conducted with the care manager, the activities coordinator/s, a member of care staff and two-to-three residents, to explore in greater depth the findings from the survey. As one home had four activities coordinators (each part-time) an activities coordinator focus group was conducted in this home, another home had two activities coordinators who wished to be interviewed together. 3.3.5 Stage two: arts organisations focus group A focus group with the professional arts organisations who were involved in case studies was also conducted. This focus group explored shared learning between the arts organisations during our project meetings and our interim sharing event, what the facilitators felt was distinctive about the arts that can help facilitate interactions and build relationships, and the enablers or barriers to the arts impacting on social relationships. 3.3.6 Stage two: summary In stage two, care managers or activities coordinators from 27 care homes took part in the online survey. With regards to interviews and focus groups, as detailed in Table 2, 12 individual staff members along with seven individual residents took part across three care homes and five arts practitioners took part in the arts organisations focus group.
