57 Brentwood School Preparatory Camping In Enrichment Week all of Year 4 went camping on the field for 1 night. We first of all took our bags over to the field and put them under a canopy. We were told how to put our tents up. My group for putting up the tents was Felix, Austin, Cole and myself. We managed to put up 3 tents as we had finished our own one. After putting up the tents, we then were called over to know who we were sleeping with. I was again with Felix, Austin, Cole. Afterwards we played a game where a leader would call out a part of an imaginary boat and then all the children would have to run there. Next we were taken into the woods to do some fire lighting. We used a tool called a fire steel to light our fire. A fire steel works by hitting two different pieces of metal together which makes a spark. Afterwards we were taken to an open space area in the woods to make a den. My group for making a den was Sophie, Felix and myself. Felix went off to get some wood whilst myself and Sophie built the den. When we finished the den we went outside the woods to play a game of Back to Base. I won one of the rounds but I didn’t win the other rounds. Next we went to do some first aid. I was used in a demonstration for how to bandage a wound and a sling if someone broke their arm. When we finished, we had some lunch - I had a sandwich and a packet of crisps. Then we had free time until dinner. We played a game of 5 aside football and used our jumpers as goalposts. When it was dinner time I had pasta and a cake for dessert. Later on we sat around a campfire. Then it was bedtime so I went to sleep in my tent. Bedtime was around 9pm. The following day I had breakfast with my friends and afterwards we played a game of Infected. We played lots of games on the second day. It was now time to go home so we packed away our stuff and walked back to the playground where my dad picked me up. My favourite part was den building because I like building structures and often build things at home. I worked within a team where we had different jobs to do. IT WAS FUN!! Alex 4SF Enrichment Week The first day of Enrichment Week was camping and that morning we had to pack and the school gave us a checklist of things to bring. When we got to school we had to put our bags into the lunch hall. Then we said goodbye to our parents and went to line up. I was excited and a bit apprehensive. When we got to the classroom we were just told what we would be doing and not to be nervous. After we went onto the field and met our group teachers and played a couple of games. Then we went to get our bags and took them down to our camp, we also had a snack. After we had our snacks we put up the tents with my group. Then the teachers told us who would be in our tents. I was in a tent with Alex, Austin and Cole. At midday we went to look at the woods and played a game we were in partners and your partner had to give you a tree and you had to feel it with your eyes closed. In the evening we had dinner, pasta with sausage and cheese. Then we went to the woods and cooked bread and marshmallows I got an extra one for having the tidiest tent. At 9:00pm we went to brush our teeth then we went to bed. The next morning we got up and made our own breakfast, a sandwich with a choice of Nutella, marmite, jam or butter. Afterwards we went to get dressed and then we went off with our groups to build dens. My group made a den with grass for carpet and ivy for camouflage. Then we played zombies and nobody caught me. At lunchtime we went in to have a packed lunch. When we had finished lunch we learnt about first aid and at the end we made custard. I enjoyed camping, it was fun and interesting. Felix Wall-Howe On the first day of “Enrichment Week,” Year Four went onto the field and set up our tents. After that everyone got put into groups and we got paired up with group leaders and went into “Bayman Woods” and jumped straight into our first activity. After this had finished all groups got together and had a little break. All the boys decided to play with a football that I found in a holly bush. Sadly Mr. Holtby took the ball away but this was not to worry us as Beau rummaged through some bushes and found us a second ball! Mr.Holtby was not going to take the ball away this time. And then we went back into the woods and had our second activity, this went down a treat, everyone in the group had a really great time. All the groups had lunch and played some more football. Now it was time to make some bread. Then we roasted it over the fire, we shared this with a nice warm hot chocolate. Finally everyone was told who they were in a tent with. I had an amazing tent with Ben Barker, James Farrow and Alex Roffey. When we woke up the boys went out and started to play football. The second day was basically all tidying up our tents and packing everything away. Sadly our camping had to come to an end with one last activity. The fun of camping was sadly over but everyone in Year Four was already looking forward to next year when we go camping in Mersea for three days and two nights!
