Brentwood School Preparatory 58 A Fly on the Wall - Year Four On Monday 22nd May 2017 Year 4, went camping. First we had to know what groups we would be in. There were 4 instructors who would lead the groups. I was in group 2, Johnny’s group or banana- man’s group, then we were sorted into which tents we would be in for the whole time - I was with: Kian, William and Arthur. First we played in our groups, a game where there are 4 groups each with 15 players. When they call a number and you’re that number you need to run round the star and then crawl under your team’s legs and the first person from their team to touch the ball in the middle wins. Then we played a pirate game then this is when the real camping started. We went to the quiet room to get our things then we built our tents. Excitingly we were told our first activity was to build a natural den in the forest. I kind of let our group down by running off when we weren’t supposed to. But, I helped by telling a group of people who like to get their hands dirty to go and grab some mud and use it as a glue to stick leaves to the den and make it camouflage with the woodland. Then we went back to have lunch. I had a chicken Caesar wrap. It was delicious! Once I had finished Arthur and William and I played with my aboriginal Boomerang. Then we went to set some cotton on fire by using flint and steel to set it alight. After that, we went back to have our evening snack then clean our tents and the field. Then we went to the forest to cook some marshmallows and have it with hot chocolate. Afterwards we went back to change into our onesies or pyjamas and brush our teeth, then after one crazy day we finally went to sleep. When it was morning, I woke up and the first thing I saw was Kian, who was smiling at me in a creepy way. Then we all waited and Bloodhound My Best Year Four Memory My best memory is the Science Dome, so that’s what I’m going to write about. On the last day of Enrichment Week Year Four went into a Science Dome to learn about Space. We went in as ignorant students, and came out as space nerds. What went on inside that dome was truly amazing! We learnt how the universe started. We saw the first calendar. We were told that there are other planets in the solar system, which could sustain life! We witnessed moons orbiting planets in real life. After break we swapped groups, and my group were tasked with cutting out planets, colouring them in, and hanging them by waited and waited until they finally made breakfast. The menu was: Coco snaps, Coco hoops, rice crispies, yoghurt (peach or strawberry flavour) and fruit. I had strawberry yoghurt with Coco snaps. Not long after we learnt medical health care. We were told to check for a pulse, a wound and if they have any broken bones then we tested it on our partners - I was with Oyinda Fadayomi. After that we went to build artificial dens, when we finished testing if the dens were completely waterproof we played sniper-sniper! Then we had lunch. I had 2 packets of crisps, 2 cocoa hazelnut spread and ham sandwiches and 1 chocolate cereal bar like on Monday. We played with my boomerang again. Later we went to the forest to bake some bread, it was good. Finally we went to have some custard with either chocolate or vanilla Swiss rolls then they said thank you to the people who helped and then they asked us to shout. If you loved it shout loudly, if you liked it talk normally, if you didn’t like it whisper and if you hated it don’t say anything! Sadly some people didn’t say anything but of course I shouted my head off. Then off we went home, I still had late stay but the good thing was NO HOMEWORK!!! By Omaye Binitie making a hole in the top, and using split pins. It was quite fiddly, but fun. By the end of the session we learnt how the universe will come to an end - by the sun exploding and consuming all of the planets, turning them into a fiery inferno abyss! The whole day was just the best. It felt thrilling to step inside the dark and spooky dome, not knowing what lies ahead. I remember feeling a little scared at first, but I needn’t have worried, because the whole experience turned out to be my favourite memory of my time in Year Four! By Cole Alabaster-Campbell 4SF
