By Evie Harris In my new house there is an old painting, Of a few knights and a king that was reigning, The vivid colours of his shiny coat had faded, The picture had gone brown where the colours were shaded, It didn’t sit well on my shiny new wall, Looking eerie and menacing in my pristine modern hall, The colours were different even though it turned brown, The shiny patterned frame matched the king’s golden crown. A mysterious feeling would run up your spine, Trying to give you some sort of sign, Maybe it was a ghost of that reigning king, Sending that shiver, that message, that sting. No one’s found out yet but I’m going to try, To be like a detective, an agent, a spy, It could guard a new entrance to a treasure untold, It could be an emerald, a ruby, some gold. In my new house there is an old painting, Of a few knights and a king that was reigning, What an amazing yet mysterious treasure to find, Who knows what secret will be discovered behind??? By Emma Burgess Crossing the River Shrink myself, sit on a leaf and wait for an autumn gale to blow me across. Turn into an octopus, jump onto the bottom of a plane and hang there until you drop. Use a grow potion, pour it onto a tree, push the tree down over the river and walk across it. Get a ballerina, and she will jump over the river with me on her back. Evaporate myself and wait for the autumn wind to blow me across the river. Freeze the water and ice skate across it. Use the sap of a magical tree to turn me into a fish, and then swim across. Make a bridge out of the people passing by. Steal a wizard’s potion and spawn a rainbow bridge. Find a cold onion, eat it and then it would make me cry, then my tears would fall on my foot, then I would grow wings and fly across. Use a hairdryer to blow the water away. Get a car and drive around the river. Get on a unicorn and trot across. Go to the nearest DIY shop and buy a grappling hook and grapple onto a tree on the other side and let it pull me across. Use a giant sponge shaped like a unicorn to soak up the river. Get a vampire to speed run me across. Make a zip line across. Call Aquaman with a sea shell and ask for him to swim me across. Call Moses to open the water and I would run across. Fly across using ten hairdryers. Wait for a sea creature to drink all the water. By 5JL
