69 This year, Year Sixes are doing a play called The Pirates of Penzance instead of doing a Disney themed show. It has been 125 years since the school opened so, we chose a Victorian style. This story is about a man turning 21 named Frederic who is a junior pirate and decides to leave the pirate world and be a good man. He asked for the Pirate King to take him to land but the Pirate King left him only with his bags and a small boat. Then Ruth, Frederic’s nursery maid wanted go with him and get married. He thought she was too old but they left together and stumbled upon an island where there were maidens and Frederic fell in love immediately. The maidens wanted to take their shoes and stockings off to swim until Frederic stops them. He wanted one of the maidens to fall in love with him until he told them he was a pirate then no one wanted to love him apart from one girl, Mabel. They both fell in love until the pirates came upon the island and captured the maidens apart from Mabel. She told them to stop and that her father is a Major General and as she finished her sentence, the Major General came in and started to prove how he was a Major General. During Act Two we had to have our makeup on. The daughters actually had PROPER makeup unlike me and the pirates, we had uni-brows and beards with scars! In Act Two was the funniest part… ‘Cat like tread’. The Major General wakes up and doesn’t know the pirates are there. The funny part was when he said he couldn’t hear anything even though everyone was sneezing and coughing so he said it was a sign of wind! We really enjoyed performing in this show.
