Brentwood Prep Incipe 2019
Brentwood School Preparatory 10 Salute Miss L Morgan After graduating from Cardiff University, I spent three years working for Welsh Rugby. Having spent a wonderful eight years in Cardiff, I then decided that teaching was a career that I wanted to pursue so I moved to London to complete my PGCE. Since beginning my teaching career I have worked in schools in both London and Essex before joining Brentwood Prep last September. As an Old Brentwood, I jumped at the chance to work at the school as I was extremely happy as a pupil here. I have thoroughly enjoyed my first year here and staff, pupils and parents have been so welcoming. In my spare time I enjoy music and sport. I play rugby twice a week and sing in a Welsh choir in London where I have been lucky enough to sing the national anthems on the pitch at international rugby matches and sing for Harry and Meghan at Buckingham Palace! Miss L Seaman When I left school at 17, I wanted to dance. I wanted to go to a dance school and pay my own way through, so I went straight out to work in the city. I continued dancing in my spare time and was eventually taken on and trained as an extra curricular dance teacher. I helped to start a performing arts school with Innovation Dance, where I went on to teach children baby ballet, baby tap and jazz and street dance. I put on many productions and entered my students into many competitions with great success, enjoying every moment, until I decided to take a break and travel through Europe. Whilst on this incredible adventure of working on farms in mountains, I made some big decisions before returning home. I decided that I wanted to focus more on children’s well-being within education and so I retrained to teach yoga and mindfulness to children with Jo Manuel and Ayala Homossany at Special Yoga Foundation as part of the British Wheel of Yoga. I set up my own children’s classes in London until relocating to Sussex to continue on my path into holistic education and children’s well-being, and trained with Sussex Wildlife Trust to become a Level 3 Forest School Practitioner. As part of my course, I found myself at Brentwood Prep shadowing forest school sessions until taking on the post as Forest School Leader in June 2018. This is now my second home and if I could, I’d build a cabin in Bayman Woods and live there! I have never loved working anywhere like I love working here and I could not be more grateful. Combining Forest School with Yoga and Mindfulness is my dream and I could not love my job more. Thank you, Brentwood Prep for making me feel so welcome and so at home! Mr A Spall-Hancy Now that it is coming to an end, I have very much enjoyed my first year at Brentwood Prep and have felt welcomed by all of you. It has been an exciting year teaching Year Six, as well as Spanish and Science. Real highlights have been Bushcraft in Enrichment Week, organising the Year 5 Enterprise Challenge and the MFL Euroquiz. Running Mindfulness Club has been a real highlight of my Monday and Friday breaktimes. A bit about me: I was born in Colchester and grew up with my two younger sisters and parents in Tiptree, the place where the jam is made and, more importantly, where Mr Kitley now lives! I discovered a talent for languages at school and decided to study Spanish, French and Italian at university. I even got to spend a year in Spain where I worked in a school teaching English and this made me decide to become a teacher. In my spare time away from the classroom, I love to travel, learn new languages, running and going to the gym. As 6AS know, I am passionate about the environment and hope we can all play our part in school to look after it. Mrs S Woods As a young girl growing up in Australia, I never imagined I would end up working in a school on the other side of the world. Yet here I am and I am really pleased to have joined the Brentwood Team. Whilst studying Psychology at Deakin University in Melbourne, I took on some part time work as a tutor and a nanny. It was this experience of working with children and helping them to reach their potential that drove me to decide to qualify as a teacher. Whilst in my first teaching post as a secondary teacher, a friend encouraged me to think about teaching abroad. Soon, my sights were set on traveling, with Europe at the top of my destination list. I packed my bags and set off for London. It was a big move for me, as prior to that I had never left Australian soil, not even to go on holiday! I soon found myself with a job teaching Year Five in Islington. I made the most of the school holidays, exploring other countries and cultures. Living and teaching in London was both challenging and rewarding. England soon became my second “home”. Eight years later, after I had got married and had my first child, I decided to take a break from teaching and focus on raising my daughter. During that time, my family and I moved to Essex where I currently live with my husband, three children and my dog. Being back in the classroom and working as a teaching assistant at Brentwood School has been a fantastic experience so far. I have really enjoyed the busyness of the school day, the vast range of activities and being able to work with many different children (and staff members!) throughout the school. I am a keen netballer myself so it has been a bonus to also be involved with the netball club. I am excited to be a part of the Brentwood School and am looking forward to many happy years here.
