Brentwood Prep Incipe 2019

Brentwood School Preparatory 12 Valete Mrs S Lucas Mrs Sally Lucas was a midday assistant with an amazing twenty one years of service to Brentwood Prep. The children helped to work out that she had cared for over four hundred children in her time at the School and had worked for three different Head Teachers! We held a special Assembly in her honour and the children had made class cards which they gave her; she also had a “Happy Retirement” rose bush from the staff and a beautiful bouquet. Mrs Lucas will spend more time travelling and with her new grandchild and we all wish her a long and happy retirement. Ms C Stephenson Carey Stephenson was a wonderful work colleague, dedicated teacher and remains a lovely friend. She was a teacher at Prep 3-7 for seven years, starting as maternity cover; she then taught most of the different year groups during her time with the school. With a passion for Science and Forest School, Carey organised a very successful Science Week which was enjoyed by pupils and teachers alike. Teaching children to be independent investigators, Carey took great delight in encouraging the children to spend more time outside the classroom using practical skills, and passing on her enthusiasm of the natural world and respecting the planet. Not only was Carey a class teacher, she was also responsible for the Prep 3-7 School Council, a role which she took very seriously and got the best out of the elected children. Helping them come up with money raising ideas for charity events and encouraging the children to think about what additional equipment the school needed. Out of school, Carey is a proud and dedicated grandparent and we know she plans on spending a lot more time with her family in Cornwall, beginning with helping her daughter arrange her wedding by learning to arrange wildflowers into beautiful wedding displays. Carey has many interests - art, theatre, gardening and yoga. Her love of travel is shown by her recent trip to India where she went on a yoga retreat and finished the holiday off with a once in a lifetime tiger trail. With sailing being Carey’s main passion, we wish her a plain sailing into her retirement. Ms J Scotland Joanne ( Joe to family, friends and colleagues) has made a huge impact during her 9 years at the Prep School, not only, but most importantly, inspiring and enriching the learning of the pupils in her care, but also as a trusted colleague and fun-loving friend. The energy and enthusiasm which she brought to the Prep was evident in her roles of Year Five then Year Six form tutor, Head of ICT (Director of Digital Learning) and, latterly, Lawrence House Tutor. The pupils in her classes have benefitted from her innovative Maths projects, inspiring English topics and exciting ICT lessons, during which they learnt how to make stop animation films to be showcased at the end of year ‘Animation Oscars’. Outside the classroom Joe has enjoyed running the knitting club, gardening club, after-school hockey club, the Ipswich Sports Tour and of course, the Year Six Bushcraft trip, during which the children (and staff) enjoyed lake swimming, building campfires and shelters, survival activities and some rare sightings of the elusive ‘drop bear’! As if school life isn’t busy enough in itself, Joe manages to fit a whole host of hobbies and interests into her evenings and weekends. Exercise classes, reading, photography, scuba diving, travel and looking after Lilly the kitten keep her occupied when she is not spending time with family and friends or exhibiting her amazing photographic portraits for the Leigh Art Trail. In the first few weeks of her starting her new job at the Prep nine years ago we discovered we shared a birthday. Since then we have shared so much more - a love of teaching, a classroom (my office being at the back of her form room), art and sculpture, food, wine and city breaks, with Venice and Paris being our favourites so far. Along with all the staff and pupils at the Prep, I wish Joe all the very best in her new role at the Senior School and I know that the two of us will remain life-long friends. Mrs M Faiers
