Brentwood Prep Incipe 2019
Secrets of the School The Cellars Dark and damp, the vast eerie cellars were once the bustling stores for the Taskers’ home. A coal chute rattles down from the current playground into the depths, and a culvert drain protected the supplies from flooding. A mysterious window may have once let shafts of light into the gloom. The boiler room for the Prep would have been down here originally, providing hot water for the boarders and teachers in the rooms above. Year Six Classrooms This rather plain and functional part of the building suggests it may have been a new kitchen and scullery area built in 1900. There is an enormous tiled fireplace, now sealed and used as a bookshelf, which may have housed a range where meals were prepared for the Taskers. A narrow staircase runs past here, from the cellars to the top of the house and the sound of servants footsteps can easily be imagined.
