Brentwood Prep Incipe 2019

Brentwood School Preparatory 41 World Book Day The focus for this year’s World Book Day was sharing stories. In the library we did just that. Miss Mitchell shared her favourite part of Harry Potter and The Philosopher’s Stone with 3HJ and talked about her passion for the series. Mrs Jolley treated 4ST to a wonderful short story by Enid Blyton called “Off to the Land of Tiddlywinks”. Mr Kitley arrived at 4SF’s lesson armed with his favourite books which included The Tiger Who Came to Tea, Harry Potter and Stormbreaker, part of the Alex Rider series by Anthony Horowitz. He talked about his love of reading which was inspiring. Mr Barber, it turns out, is a bit of a hoarder so he still has all his childhood books. After trawling through his loft he settled on a Paddington Bear story to share with 3CK which we all thoroughly enjoyed. He is also a fan of non-fiction so he shared a bizarre fact about treacle too and showed the children a very old Ladybird book called Smoke and Fluff, about two kittens, which cost 50p! Mr Whiskerd took time out of his busy schedule to visit 4LM during their library lesson. He treated us to some wonderful renditions of ‘Heard it in the Playground’ and ‘Not Now Nigel’ by Allan Ahlberg. He also talked about the books he is enjoying reading at the moment, Lustrum by Robert Harris and Bounce by Matthew Syed, both inspired some lively discussions! This was a really special way to celebrate reading and promote sharing stories. The children also learnt a lot about drama and writing at enjoyable workshops run by our visiting author, Anne Stairmand. She shared some of her books with children from all year groups, and then signed copies of her books in the afternoon.
