Brentwood School Preparatory 50 Billy’s Bucket, by Kes Gray and Garry Parsons, celebrates the power of the imagination to transform the ordinary into the fantastic and the importance of play in taking all of us beyond our everyday experiences. Billy asks for a bucket for his birthday in which he discovers a whole undersea world. His parents are amused but disbelieving until Dad fails to heed Billy’s warnings and borrows the bucket without asking… After having an enjoyable time reading this book, the children in Reception had a fabulous finish with a day at the ‘seaside’. They came dressed for a visit to the coast which had miraculously appeared in the walled garden! The children paddled in the sea, built sandcastles, took holiday snaps and licked cooling ice lollies. School can be such fun! The children were amazed to find some very large footprints and, with Mrs Audas’s help, the dinosaur was discovered! Fortunately, it was only Mrs Townsend…or was it? The children spent the rest of the afternoon building homes and making a swamp for their dinosaurs while the big dinosaur had a rest in the hammock! After discovering a strange egg in the classroom, the children were amazed to find several dinosaurs hatched out of it! After bravely investigating them, they became quite the dinosaur experts! As they took their dinosaurs to explore the woods, they realised there was something very strange happening.
