Brentwood Prep Incipe 2019

Year Two do like to be beside the seaside! After an interesting time at Southend Planetarium, exploring the exhibits and impressing the curator with their space knowledge, the sun came out for an afternoon of fun on the beach. Year Two had a marvellous time collecting shells, building sandcastles and enjoying ice cream on the sea wall. The sea air ensured the children would sleep well that night! Sun Sea and Stars at Southend Remembrance While learning about Remembrance, Year Two welcomed two very special visitors, Mr Bryer and Madame Mayor. Mr Bryer, Chairman of the Brentwood branch of the Royal British Legion, spoke to the children about the work of the Royal British Legion and the importance of Remembrance. During their English lessons, the children had been working on writing interesting questions for Mr Bryer and he was able to satisfy their curiosity about the armed forces, poppies and the help for veterans. The children were thrilled that Madam Mayor was able to find time in her busy schedule to join Mr Bryer. They were in awe of her splendid robes and chains and were eager to find out about what the role of a Mayor might entail. Year Two then took part in the Remembrance service at the war memorial, a very moving and memorable experience. They were welcomed by the Chaplain and watched the unveiling of the commemorative paving stone, honouring Sergeant Merrifield who was born in Brentwood and was awarded the Victoria Cross. After several speeches, the children listened respectfully to the Last Post by the Brentwood Imperial Youth Band before observing the two minute silence. After reciting The Lord’s Prayer, the Year Two children laid down their wooden crosses inscribed with personal messages. The Prep School raised over £300 for the British Legion from poppy sales, thank you for your support. Brentwood School Preparatory 55 Classroom Chronicles - Year Two
