Brentwood School Preparatory 57 Classroom Chronicles - Year Three As the pupils were walking around the woods, describing the dry, crunchy leaves and the crisp, cool air, one of the children came across a box with some lovely jewellery inside! The teachers and pupils put their heads together to try and figure out where the box had come from, but it was a mystery! What a strange find indeed, and a good start for a story. In the Woods Year Three went to the woods for one of their English lessons to discover different adjectives, helping them prepare for writing an adventure story. In History, Year Three have been learning about the Stone Age. The pupils were asked to create their own cave art and what wonderful Stone Age artists they turned out to be! The creative and imaginative Stone Age art gallery was admired by everyone who saw it. By Tireni, Holly and Johnny Crane Calculations The arrival of a very large crane to the construction site fascinated Year Three! Mr Kitley’s maths group decided to find out how tall the crane was and how many Year Threes stacked on top of each other would be the same height as the crane. The builders told them it was 20 metres to the cab and 65 metres from the ground to the top of the jib when it is fully upright. They then measured the height of each child in the class so they could work out the mean average height of a Year Three pupil. Using all this information, the children used different methods to work out how many children would be the same height as the crane. The answers were: Proof that the crane really was tall! Ground to the cab = 16 average Year Threes or 11 Mr Kitleys! Ground to jib = 51 average Year Threes or 36 Mr Kitleys!
