Brentwood Prep Incipe 2019

Brentwood School Preparatory 58 Classroom Chronicles - Year Three Maths is a very popular subject in Year Three and it is easy to see why! 3NR and Mrs Roberts danced their way through the subject of fractions, and Mr Kitley used Smarties and Skittles to work out what fraction of the sweets in a tube were a particular colour and combined all the results to find averages. Some pupils went on to simplifying the fractions and creating bar charts to show their data. From practising times tables using playing cards and working in pairs to understand place value, Maths lessons are always fun! Maths in Year Three What better way to learn about Egyptain embalming, than to mummify a tomato? Year Three practised the Ancient Egyptian art of embalming and mummification, thankfully, this time, the victimwas just a tomato! The ancient Egyptians believed that the body of a dead person needed to be preserved in order that their spirit could live on in the afterlife. They preserved bodies by the mummification process. 1. Scoop out the internal organs to dry the body. The Egyptians kept the heart, which they placed inside the mummy, and the lungs, liver, stomach and guts which were kept inside canopic jars for protection. (Scoop out the tomato seeds!) 2. Wash the empty body with wine; the alcohol was supposed to kill germs. (Rub the tomato with hand sanitiser!) 3. Next, pack the body with a naturally occurring salt called natron to dry out. (Pack your tomato cavity with salt and then place it in a container so it is completely covered) 4. Wrap the dried out body in bandages , placing amulets inside to take to the afterlife. (Wrap your tomato in tissue, placing a counter inside the layers!) Year Three are now embalmers!
