Brentwood Prep Incipe 2019

Brentwood School Preparatory 61 Classroom Chronicles - Year Five Delicious cakes, brownies and cookies were in plentiful supply when 5JL hosted a cake sale to raise money for the UCLH and Broomfield Neonatal Unit who had looked after Sid’s baby brother. He was born very early and was very tiny, but the kindness and support of the hospital for him and the rest of the family helped them immensely through an extremely worrying time. Sid thoughtfully suggested and organised this cake sale to show his appreciation to these marvellous units. Cake Sale The event raised over £600 in less than twenty minutes! What a scrumptious success! After this inspiring start, in drama lessons they then looked at the language of Shakespeare, turning the Prologue from Romeo and Juliet into modern day language, and presenting their dramatized versions to the class. They looked at a modern day film version based on Shakespeare’s original play - it was interesting to see how the ideas of Shakespeare still influence us centuries later. All this work on Romeo and Juliet culminated in a fantastic workshop performance. The rest of the school and the parents were thoroughly entertained by the play, involving three casts rolled into one performance. Everyone enjoyed learning about and performing Romeo and Juliet, despite there never being “a story of more woe than this of Juliet and her Romeo”! Shakespeare Workshop Year Five enjoyed a wonderful visit from Shakespeare4Kidz. The workshop used ‘active storytelling’ to teach the pupils all about Romeo and Juliet. They had the chance to act, learn about stage directions and the colloquial language that Shakespeare used. It was a fantastic workshop, and fun was had by all.
