Brentwood Prep Incipe 2019

Brentwood School Preparatory 70 Enrichment Week - Year Three Year Three went to Hanningfield Reservoir. First we went on the Brentwood coaches to the reservoir. As soon as we arrived, the teachers counted us off the coach and we headed towards the education centre. In the education centre we listened to the teachers talking to us about the safety rules. 1. Don’t run. 2. Ask a teacher to pick up a leaf. 3. Stay with your group. Our first activity was pond dipping. We went down to the pond and discussed what we could see on and around the pond: 1. A duckling 2. The dominant colour of green 3. Lots of reeds 4. A river bank Our favourite invertebrate we found was the flatworm, it was white, and it glided across the water. After that we went into the forest and we listened to some more safety rules, then we headed off to find some animals. For about fifteen minutes we couldn’t find anything but suddenly we spotted a beetle. Mr Barber told us to call it Ringo because he is the lead drummer of the Beetles band!!! We had a great day. By Adam and Charles Leeds Castle - Lego Workshop - Cricket World Cup - Hanningfield Reservoir - Science Dome Dinosaurs, Rocks and Fossils - Orienteering - Sandwich making and Picnic - Storyteller At the Lego workshop we made jointed mini beasts, Johnny made a scorpion and Joe made a stag beetle and they both had moving parts. Then we looked at a real stick insect. At Hanningfield Reservoir we went into the forest and went pond dipping and we caught lots of fish. Then we dissected owl pellets and found bones, teeth, claws and even fur. Finally we looked for bugs in the forest. By Johnny and Joe At Leeds Castle there were many rooms. Our favourite was the Queen’s bedroom. In the castle there was a library that had at least 3000 books. There was a maze that was very big and very fun. In the middle of the maze there was a grotto that was a bit spooky, but there was a secret tunnel that led out of the maze. There was a big pond by the picnic tables and at lunch everybody was scared by the black swans. People thought they were attacking them but really they wanted to steal the sandwiches! By Avni and Jessica At Leeds Castle Year Three had fun doing a maze that led to a grotto that most people thought was spooky. There were incredible peacocks, blue and white ones - they almost spread out their feathers but to our disappointment they didn’t. We also watched some birds of prey soar through the air. We made shields to represent ourselves and ended the day with tasty ice creams. Back at school we played some exciting games of cricket and had lots of fun. After that we looked at some minibeasts and made some out of Lego - some creations were incredible and it gave you a chance to use your imagination. Next we all got to hold a stick insect and it was kind of ticklish but we had to be very careful because we didn’t want to squash it! When we went to Hanningfield Reservoir, we had a go at pond dipping and we even saw a baby duckling. When we had found some creatures we looked at them to discover what they were. We picked bones out of owl pellets as well, it was really interesting. By Bailey and Westley
