Brentwood Prep Incipe 2019
Brentwood School Preparatory 71 Enrichment Week - Year Four During Enrichment Week, the Year Fours participated in lots of enjoyable activities including camping, dinosaur day, orienteering, robotics and languages. Most people’s favourite activities were camping and robotics but all the sessions were great. In camping, we lit fires with cotton wool, flint steel and we learnt that potassium permanganate and glycerol react to cause fire. There were many activities that required teamwork, patience and communication skills. In the whole event, we were being taught how to survive in the wild. Just before home time, we had a challenge to test our skills. We did well! We made shelters, dens, fire, meals and best of all, we had fun with our friends. On Dinosaur Day, we made a massive dinosaur as big as a car and as long as a lamppost! You can see it in the entrance hall. We made clay dinosaurs and when we had finished we drew some terrifying dinosaurs. A while later, we dug up some skeletons of dinosaurs and identified them using books. After lunch, we got into groups and set off for orienteering. We had a map of the field and it had numbers marked on it. We had to go from number to number and figure out the puzzle. All the letters spelt out a dinosaur’s name. Ours was Stegosaurus. On Technology Day, we learnt to program robots and why they sometimes fail. Robots fail depending on how they are built, how they are used and which environment you use them in. We also learnt about STEM which stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. Later on, we built some robots that moved like cars. Our final day was all about languages. We learnt a few words in Quechua - Allillanchu, Welsh - Bore da, and Russian - Privet. We heard about Mrs Bullock’s exciting time in Russia as a university student and how cold the Russian winters are, Some people knew a lot about Russia - mainly from last year’s Football World Cup! We watched some video messages from some children in Belarus and sent them some greetings in English back. We all had a fun week and, true to its name, we were Enriched!
