Brentwood Prep Incipe 2019

Brentwood School Preparatory 74 STEM Stunning science projects were displayed in the Garden Building to select three pupils to represent the Prep School in the Senior School Science Exhibition. Mr Whiskerd and Mrs Faiers were overwhelmed by the quality of the work and were extremely happy to see such enthusiasm for science from all the entrants from Year Five and Six. Our Prep School champions were then invited to compete with other children from local schools who had also designed Science exhibits based on the theme The Wonder of Science. Elisa, Sarah and William all spoke confidently and knowledgeably about their respective projects on Optical Illusions, Density and The Wood Wide Web at the Science Exhibition. All received a certificate and well-deserved praise for their participation in the event. Brentwood Preparatory School entered a team in this year’s National Young Mathematicians’ Awards, sponsored by Nrich, a collaboration between the Faculties of Mathematics and Education at the University of Cambridge. Four Year Six pupils attended the first round of this fabulous competition in Chelmsford. They were faced with a range of difficult mathematical challenges and by using their amazing team work and mathematical reasoning and problem solving skills achieved fantastic results. These are some of their thoughts on the day. In January, Devanshi, Ned, Sophia and I went to Chelmsford to compete in the young mathematicians competition in Chelmsford. We went to the venue (in a Sainsbury’s store!) with Mrs Miles in her car. When we arrived, the people in charge told us we had to work out the answers to some questions, with a time limit, which involved dice. We worked well together and answered all the questions. When the time was up, we had to explain what we did and how we worked it out together. After that, we had to go back to school. The journey back involved Devanshi reading a very funny story to us! Unfortunately, two weeks later, we found out that we had not reached the next round. However, we were happy we had competed and we had a lot of fun.
