Brentwood Prep Incipe 2019

Brentwood School Preparatory 75 STEM Fairground Rides Year Six learnt about circuits in DT and used them to power their own fairground rides... My favourite part of making a fairground ride was when we tested it. When we turned it on it turned out to be as fast as a cheetah slapping the air. Then we had to spend the rest of DT working out how to slow it down… By Emily Ferris wheels and carousels, All our rides, spinning fast. In and out, up and down, Round and round, round and round. Glueing together our materials, Red plasticine to create people. Our hands working with the wood, Using batteries to make it move. Never stopping until it’s done, DT is so much fun. We made rides! By Leo, Ishneet, Alyssa The Prep had a STEM Day at Brentwood School with Mr Walland. Our Year Five pupils learned all about forces and how they work by using bottle rockets. The first half of the day was spent learning about aerodynamics, streamlining and designing using appropriate materials, then creating their own bottle rocket. There were some fantastic designs and the pupils (and staff) were very excited to see the rockets fly! After acquiring this new knowledge of Engineering, Year Five embarked on their bridges topic with great gusto. The children investigated many different types of bridges, discovering how the forces of tension and compression could be changed to make them stronger. They experimented with different materials to see which were suitable for each type of bridge.
