Brentwood Prep Incipe 2019

Brentwood School Preparatory 8 Mrs L Bullock I grew up in Twickenham in south west London and went to school in Hammersmith. I loved learning languages at school and was always trying to learn exotic languages at home, teaching myself little bits of Japanese, Serbo-Croat and Arabic. I had to wait a long time to actually go abroad and use them though, as our holidays were mostly spent in the Lake District with my brothers and sister. I studied German and Russian at university and spent my third year abroad in Russia. It was a tough, but very interesting experience - the Soviet Union had only just disintegrated and the “Wild East” was certainly an apt way to describe the country at the time. I lived with local families in Yaroslavl and St Petersburg and spent some of my time teaching English to adults and children at a private language school, which I really enjoyed. Having heard about my love of talking to anybody and everybody, I was not recruited by MI6 after university, but joined Thomson Holidays on their graduate trainee scheme. One thing I had found out in Russia, was that I definitely preferred the Mediterranean climate to life at minus 30 degrees centigrade and I had decided that I really wanted to work in the travel industry. I worked as a marketing manager for Thomson for many years, putting the holiday brochures and marketing campaigns together, filming episodes of “Wish you were here?” and travelling the world on holiday. I have two children - a son of 15 and a daughter who is 10. I have loved being involved in primary schools ever since my son started school and last year, having spent many years as a parent helper and a school governor, I finally realised my ambition of becoming a teaching assistant. I have really enjoyed getting involved in the life of the school over the past year and working with such a wonderful team of staff. Having also worked for a number of years writing EHC plans for children with special educational needs, I am really enjoying seeing some of the ideas I have read and written about being used in practice. I have loved getting to know all the children and can definitely say that working at Brentwood School is the most fun, day to day, of any job I’ve had! Mrs T Falco Subject: Art . Favourite quote: “Logic will take you from A to B. Imagination will take you everywhere. “ Albert Einstein. Originally from Islington in London, I graduated from South Essex University with a BA in Fine Art. I have exhibited across London and Essex and have a passion for all things vintage. I have used my passion for art to deliver weekend vintage workshops at Metal in Chalkwell Park and am an active member of Mayflowers WI, where I have been for the past three years. I am the proud owner of two sons and a daughter who often help me with scouting out and upcycling old furniture, and my weekends are frequently taken up by new projects and studying for my qualification in Art Therapy. Salute Miss E Hart I enjoyed my time at Brentwood School as a pupil so I was thrilled to have the opportunity to join the teaching staff and work in the Nursery. It is quite strange to sit in the staffroom having a cup of tea with my old teachers who are now work colleagues! I enjoy working at Brentwood because everybody is very welcoming and make work fun, my mentors help me to learn new things everyday. When I am not working on my college course, I enjoy playing netball and going to the theatre. In the future I hope to work in a nursery or become a nanny. Miss A Helsby I have always had a passion for sport, being in sports teams at school, participating in many outside clubs, being involved in sport summer camps in the UK and abroad, and studying sport at University. After sixth form, I studied Sport and Exercise Science at University of Brighton. I had 3 great years on the coast and enjoyed developing my knowledge on the theory side of sport. During my second year, I spent the summer in the USA at a residential summer camp which was a rewarding opportunity. Once graduating from University, I worked at St Edmund’s College as a Sport Graduate Assistant. My time there confirmed my desire to follow the teaching route. I was fortunate to be offered a position at Bishop’s Stortford College to complete my PGCE in Secondary Education which was accredited with the University of Buckingham. I then moved on to Fulham Prep School and although I really enjoyed my time at Fulham (despite the long commute each day), I missed the fast-paced environment and big school vibe. I was so pleased when the Head of Girls’ Games role became available and was ecstatic to be offered the position. I have very much enjoyed my first year, it has been busy and action packed and I look forward to all the exciting opportunities and experiences I am yet to face at Brentwood Prep.
