Brentwoodian 2019
109 Mr Beedell joined Brentwood School as a teacher of Mathematics in 2014. He immediately became involved in the wider life of the School as Head of Cross Country and Bronze Duke of Edinburgh’s Award leader. In September 2016 he became Head of Mathematics, leading the largest department in the School very successfully. In September 2017 he took on the role of Director of Studies as part of the wider Senior Leadership Team. He leaves us to become Head of Mathematics at the Anglo European School. Tom Beedell Mr Berkley made a huge contribution to the lives of the students of Brentwood School. He was an exceptionally supportive Head of EAL as well as a dedicated History teacher. His contributions extended far beyond the classroom to the sports fields where our students benefited from his passion for football. An exceptional teacher and colleague he has left us to move with his family to Cambridge where he joins the Stephen Perse School as a Teacher of History. We wish him well. Charlie Berkley Mr Berale joined Brentwood School in 2018 and made a significant contribution to the Geography Department and the School as a whole. Most notably, he had an excellent relationship with his classes due to training some of his pupils in Football and Athletics. He is a keen sportsman and ran the Brentwood Half Marathon which both supported and encouraged the pupils who were also participating. In the Geography Department, Mr Berale offered new resources and planned meticulous lessons. He also planned a thoroughly enjoyable but educational trip to the Southwold coastline. Mr Berale is a loss to the department and he will be missed. Lewis Berale Mr Bolton was a significant asset to the Maths department; as a former deputy headteacher he brought a lot of expertise with him. His vast experience teaching A Level was appreciated by the students and staff. Mr Bolton became known in the department for his personalised, differentiated worksheets and his focus on problem solving. He was also involved in rugby and enjoyed coaching his team. Mr Bolton has now retired with plans to go to visit Australia and if his children get their way he might adopt a dog. Paul Bolton Mr Clark joined the school in 2014 as Head of Classics. In his time here, he shared his passion for the subject with students and staff alike. He led a trip to Sorrento, where he famously argued with a stall keeper who tried to sell a dagger to one of our pupils, and accompanied many others, even being second in charge in the Greece trip months before his departure. It is the mark of an excellent teacher that, even years after leaving school, their students still talk about and remember their lessons fondly and many of Mr Clark's students have told us that his Greek A Level lessons are still a point of discussion among them every time they meet up. Current students still talk about his extraordinary kindness, his cheerful attitude and always giving nature. Within the department, he stood out for his love for Greek and Latin composition, which he has passed on to many of us, students and teachers. We hope that he is truly prosperous in his new role as Head of Classics at Rossall School , where he will undoubtedly inspire the same love for Classics as he did to his students at Brentwood. Ben Clark
