Brentwoodian 2019

114 Mrs Schwar joined us as Miss Browett in 2013, and quickly established herself as a strong personality and passionate believer in all things English with particular interest in all things gore and horror. We have enjoyed her enthusiasm for Harry Potter and she has organised numerous trips to Harry Potter World over the years. Mrs Schwar took charge of English for KS3, and was of invaluable assistance to English teachers throughout her time. Mrs Schwar had a welcome smile for everybody, and was generous and helpful to everybody she came into contact with, students and staff alike. After joining the LD department, Mrs Schwar supported the student body more widely, running revision support, Imagination Emporium and Rock Club and offering invaluable support to both students and those staff who benefited from her knowledge of SEND. She is a truly kind and enthusiastic practitioner who brought a genuine passion and consideration to her work with students that is so appreciated. All of her students had genuine cause to be grateful to her and we will miss her greatly. We wish Mrs Schwar all the best in her new position as SENDCo at St Martin’s School. Sian Schwar Mr Seaman started at Brentwood School in 2002 as Head of Chemistry – a role he held for eight years. During that time, he introduced the IGCSE in 2008, and was instrumental in putting together a curriculum that sought to recognise the importance of the practical aspects of the subject. He was a loyal and supportive colleague of the department and many of his colleagues benefitted from his experience and his wise counsel. He helped to support students with Oxbridge applications and the depth of his knowledge is something that we will miss. Beyond the classroom, he was Contingent Commander of the CCF during a time of expansion, played a major role in representing CCFs at regional and national level and was involved in the establishment of cadet partnerships in two local schools. Mr Seaman served as Chair of the Common Room, supporting the needs of the wider staff body, and led the School’s sailing programme. Mr Seaman left this year after 17 years of service. We thank him for all he did in these areas of school life and wish him every success in the future. John Seaman Ms Porovic joined Brentwood in 2014 as Head of the Mathematics department. Her subject knowledge, energetic yet measured approach to teaching and her desire to enable each of her pupils to fulfil their potential made her a very popular teacher of Maths, from First Year pupils all the way up to higher level IB pupils. She then applied these skills and qualities to her role as Director of Teaching and Learning and as a member of the School’s Senior Leadership Team from 2016. In these roles she was instrumental in the successful implementation of our iPad one-to-one digital learning initiative, the Brentwood Learning Community programme and the Masterclass sessions to local primary pupils. She also significantly enhanced the training of teachers at Brentwood, including those joining as newly qualified teachers as well as more established colleagues. Ms Porovic leaves us to take up a well-earned promotion as Deputy Head at Rossall School in Lancashire. We wish her and her family every success and happiness. Dina Porovic
