Brentwoodian 2019

25 Iceland Sixteen eager Upper Sixth Geography students and two (just as keen) staff embarked on a trip to Iceland between 28th November and 1st October 2018. Over the five days, students explored the incredible geographical landscapes. The first few experiences included climbing the Solheimajökull Glacier armed with crampons and ice axes, visiting the fascinating pipe-like basalt columns on Reynishverfi beach formed by the cooling of lava and seeing a plethora of enchanting waterfalls including Skógafoss, Seljalandsfoss and Gullfoss. This was followed by a (hot!) bathing experience in Iceland’s oldest natural hot spring - The Secret Lagoon. We also visited the Geysir Geothermal Area and the historic Thingvellir National Park. Students also loved the journey into the interior valleys, highlands, icecaps, glaciers and volcanoes of South Iceland by 4×4 Super Jeeps before unwinding in the capital city, Reykjavik. It was an amazing adventure that students and staff alike will never forget, especially the ‘ghost tour’ and catching the Northern Lights on the final night. A huge thank you to the brilliant students and Miss KB. By Mr Wright
