Brentwoodian 2019

38 The Michaelmas term has been filled with victories and great learning curves for all the U13 rugby teams but we are here to tell you about the B team specifically. We have faced 11 teams this season, some have been better than us and helped us on our journey to overall success, some have not been as good and showed us our ability and inspired us to do well; some have been playing for longer and some have trained and worked together more. But as a team we worked together to try and overcome every team we faced, but unfortunately it didn’t come that easily. We had varied results; we won 5, drew 3 and lost 3. As a team we worked very well with each other and we gelled very well and reasonably quickly. With each game we played we scored more and more tries; in some games we may have not scored a try, others may have been much more eventful, but as a team we managed to score 215 points for, 165 points against with a points difference of 50. Our top try scorer was George Mortlock with 5 tries and the player with the most Man of the Match awards was Hector Puttergill with two. Overall we had a win ratio of 45.5% for the season; we will be looking to improve on that in the future but overall we did very well and overpowered some big obstacles. By Steven Russell & Hector Puttergill U13 B It has been a very successful rugby season for the U12B squad with eight wins and four losses. The team has grown in strength and skill over the season and we have seen the development of players who have had little or no experience of rugby coming to the forefront and showing their skills. The strength of the team has been in fast moving, open play and we have had many memorable tries from our backs - Ted Buggle, Ollie Oldfield, James Reddan, Elliot Gibson, Ben Rowbury, Jaideep Cheema and Ben Copes. Charlie Lim has been an outstanding attacking player this season and, as well as scoring tries, he has been strong in defence with some significant tackles that have saved the game. Likewise, Fraser Forbes has shown the skill and vision to run into open spaces and has tackled players fearlessly, regardless of their size and been Man of the Match on several occasions! Archie Stronach has proved instrumental in linking the forwards and the backs as scrum half and has shown the ability to see open space as it develops. Jordan Williams and Louis Turner were both instrumental in securing good wins this season and I am delighted to report that they have now moved to the A team. U12 B U12 C We had the privilege to Captain and Vice Captain the U12C rugby team and went unbeaten until four games from the end of the season with many good wins like our impressive 55-15 win over Skinners’ School. Zane Egiebade, Josh Ajala, Teddy Matthews, Joseph Babatunde, Toby Coe and Oli Fulwood did an excellent job of keeping our try rates high every game as they were our main try scorers. Reggie Edwards and Jarnail Bains played some excellent passes throughout the season. We had excellent tackling displayed by Timi Fawehimi, Oliver Collard, Marcus Hannaway and William Bell. Asa French, Daniel Green, Edward Linley and Patrick Osman provided pace on the wings. Our kicker was Jake Sedgley and our scrum half was Alex Blee. Despite many of us being new to rugby we played extremely well as a team with everyone putting their body on the line. We had a few people moving up to the B team: Oli Fulwood and Ben Cope provided strength in our ranks and deservedly moved up. We are looking forward to next year when we hope to improve even more as a team. By Jake Sedgley & Alex Blee Our forwards have grown in strength over the season and have had to dig deep to secure possession against some of the more physical squads. Charlie Boast, Harshaan Gill, David Abraham, Dillon Colar and Paul Adeniji have been instrumental in securing ball in this area of play and have provided a secure platform for the backs to attack. Towards the end of the season, Oliver Fulwood joined the squad and straight away he made an impression with his straight running and determination and this bodes well for the future of this team with such emerging talent coming through. Congratulations to all the players this season. By Revd McConnaughie (Coach) & Fraser Forbes (Captain)
