Brentwoodian 2019

49 The newly formed U12B Brentwood School hockey team had a very strong opening season. We played well as a team and helped each other to develop new skills and techniques. During our training sessions we worked hard, practising drills which benefited our shooting and defending in matches. Our coach, Miss Morrell, was always on hand to offer advice and support. This hard work and determination paid off in our matches as we finished the season having played thirteen matches, winning seven of them with a fantastic goal tally of twenty-one. Many matches stand out to me but in particular was our first home win against New Hall. We were nervous as they have a good reputation for hockey but we won 2-0! Our hours of practice had finally paid off and we were victorious! Another standout match was when we played Bancroft’s School away. Again, teamwork was the order of the day and we won 4-2. It was a great match and the atmosphere on the bus home was the best feeling ever. Although we may not have won every match we played, we have all learned an important lesson that resilience and hard work pays off. Along with that, we have all formed new friendships, which have helped us become a strong team. With this in mind we look forward to the next season when we have the opportunity to play together again and hopefully win many more matches. By Alice Stonebridge U12 B U12 C This hockey team has done wonderfully well this season with many highs and lows. Together, we have bonded so well and made many new friends. Some of us (including me) had never even touched a hockey stick before but I feel like I have improved with the help of my teammates and our amazing coach, Mrs Ebden. She has taught us a lot, and we have put this knowledge to effect in our matches. At first, the Prep School could beat us, but now we have discovered how to play, and put all our training and drills into match play; we could even defeat the England team! We have made such progress throughout the season and were unfortunate to lose our last match 1-2 against Chelmsford County High School.
