Brentwoodian 2019

55 The team has gone from strength to strength this year, gaining confidence, improving our skills and building on existing friendships. We have won the vast majority of our matches, even those against A teams. Everyone in the team has played well this season and contributed to our many successes but I would like to give a shout-out particularly to Grace Kingaby, Ellie Foley and Maddy Austin for some exceptional shooting, Ellie Merritt, Isabella Born and Elizabeth Lewis for their speed on the wing, our speedy mid courts Emma Dowlen and Amelia Horton and of course some great defending from Annabel Simmons and Mobolu Olowoyeye who helped us keep our opponents’ scores to a minimum! Almost everyone on the team has been awarded Players’ Player or Coach’s Player at least once, demonstrating the range of skills throughout the team and it’s been great to see the girls congratulating each other on their achievements. There have been many things we won’t forget - like the time we accidentally hit our coach with the ball, and the Forest girls giving us grief after we beat them in a very feisty match and having to play all A teams in the MESSA matches. However I U13 B U12 A believe that one of our most memorable moments was ‘the rally in the rain’ which was unfortunately cancelled halfway through due to the terrible conditions. One of our most memorable and impressive matches was against St Edmund’s College on the 9th March winning 43-2. This match really sticks out because it was our highest scoring game of the entire year! Out of our 22 matches this year we won 17, remaining unbeaten against other school B teams. We wouldn’t have been half as successful this season without some exceptional coaching from Mrs Moriss-Jeffery. She has made each training session really fun whilst also getting the best out of the girls, so many thanks to her for her continued dedication, enthusiasm and support. As for the future, we are all looking forward to next October when we are going to La Manga for a netball tour, and having fun in the sun! I was very proud to be appointed Captain of the B team this year and I hope our team continues to play hard and win even more matches next year! By Lauren Morris After coming together in September, from many different netball clubs and primary schools, the A team has bonded incredibly well. This was proved when we reached the semi-finals of the Essex Cup won by a very tough New Hall team but at this time we are still unbeaten in the league. The Bancroft’s Rally was a highlight, winning all our matches against Forest, Chigwell, Woodlands and Bancroft. Our adaptability as a squad has shined throughout the games and we should be proud of our manners and sportsmanship to others. The team is lucky to have a fantastic set of very experienced and accurate shooters in Sophia Mitchell, Ava Regan, Madeleine James and Bobbi Sumner who adapt themselves to any given situation in the shooting circle. A memory of their amazing shooting ability was beating Coopers’ Coborn School 35 - 9. The mighty force of Sophia Moule, Danielle Kanyasa and her renowned running forward style approach to catch the ball has kept the defence strong together with the fantastic court adaptability of defenders, Florence Willett and Zoe Smithers who are both amazing at intercepting an opponent’s ball. Our incredibly strong centre, Jessica Philpot keeps the passing accurate to both myself and our very own court terrier, Emelia Hardy!! We must applaud the efforts of our amazing netball coach, Miss Morrell, who has kept us calm and focused in some very tough situations. I am sure all the girls are looking forward to next year where hopefully some of us will have a growth spurt! By Sophie Clark
