Brentwoodian 2019

64 This year we have had a pretty good season only losing one game out of nine games, which was a good achievement by the team. Our first game of the season wasn’t one of the best performances but from here on we improved as a team and we got a lot better throughout the season. A few weeks later we had a very tight game against Bishop’s Stortford School; we went 1-0 up with a very good goal, a ball over the top of the defence and Gerry Tegede there to finish it off. We then conceded a very unlucky goal but in the last kick of the game Max Barton scored a solo goal to give us the 2-1 win. The next week we had a very tight game against Dulwich College; we had a very good first goal, a great header by Max Holland to give us the lead and Samuel Walsh followed this up by scoring two more to secure the win. We defended well throughout the game and came out of the game with a 4-3 win. In this game we had some very good performances by our midfield, including Oliver Curtis and Benjamin Pogson in the centre midfield positions, and some good wide play from Harry Thomas. Credits go to all the team who worked hard throughout the game. We then finished our season off with a well-deserved victory over Sutton Grammar School. The finishing score line was 3-0. I would like to say well done to the whole team and that it has been a great season! Also thank you to Mr Bauer for being a great manager and leading us to some great wins! By Joe Ludlow-Gibbon U14 B U14 D U14 C The U14C team started off the term well with two wins, one win over Wilson’s School and the other one against Bedford Modern School. Unfortunately we then lost Archie Flashman and Jasandeep Chandi as their early season form merited promotion to the B team. Daniel Elayaraja was brilliant throughout all of our games with some amazing saves. We had Seun Fashesin-Souza and Luke Farrow controlling the back and Nahiyan Islam, Benjamin O'Riordan and Joshua Peacock using their skill and passing ability to help us attack and defend. The wings had lots of pace with Thomas Barden and Ciaran O'Hare running up and down the line. Anthony Ashaye and Luca Bassett completed the team with one having pace and no shooting ability and the other one having an eye for a goal. By Max Small The U13A team has had a very successful year. Every player in the squad was excellent throughout the season and we are proud of our achievements and are sure it will motivate us in years to come to do even better! During the Michaelmas term, we competed in the ISFA and ESFA cups. Our ISFA cup started in great fashion with a 7-0 win against Latymer House School; the team’s finishing was impressive. We had fantastic matches against St. Paul’s in an end-to-end game winning 3-2 and a tough 1-0 win against Lochinver House School. We ended up losing in the quarter-final against Haileybury when we really should have won. Unfortunately, luck didn’t go our way this time as we lost on penalties. We also had a very good run in the ESFA cup but it unfortunately ended in a defeat against St Martin’s in round 16. Thank you to all the coaches that helped this year with their efforts to make us better players, especially Mr Miller for all the training he made us do during lunch time which definitely paid off. We now can’t wait for next season! By Stanley Skipper & Tom Arnold U13 A U13 B The U13B team in 2018/19 had lots of successes by playing 10 competitive matches against other schools with a high standard of football. Our first game was against Wilson’s School. We got off to a good start with Thibaud Mathieson scoring our first goal making it 1-0 to Brentwood, then the second-half started and we got a goal scored by Thomas Eastwood making it 2-0; during the last bit of the game Wilson’s School got a goal with a great header to make it 2-1. After that game our hopes were up to win against a greatly competitive Highgate School. We got off to a good start scoring three in the first-half and becoming a bit too comfortable around the pitch. The second-half started, and midway through, they got a goal to make it 3-1 The U14D team has had an excellent season. Some amazing football has been played with this talented squad of players and a real highlight has been our strong team spirit. It was an unbeaten season, drawing two matches and winning two matches. The team had an impressive work ethic and an impregnable defence. Over the course of the four matches played, there were a total of 13 goals scored, which sums up the superb attacking quality, not to mention a few players that started the season in the D team and worked their way up through the ranks of higher teams. The highlight of the season was an away fixture against Sevenoaks School. It saw the U14D team winning 4-1 which was an incredible away result. Joseph Toth scored a halfway ‘wonder goal’ to the delight of his teammates, which led to an impressive win. Many thanks to Mr Howard and Mr Essuman for a great season and well done to the lads.
