Brentwoodian 2019

65 to Brentwood. They scored two very quickly after that to make it 3-3 with some great plays but, with ten minutes to go, they scored making it 3-4 to Highgate; it was the last minutes of play and we all ran up the pitch; a pass through to Thibaud Mathieson and he scored to make it 4-4 so we only got it in the nick of time. Overall we played extremely well as a team. Throughout the season we won most and drew a couple until the last game of the season where we went into the game hopes high and ready to go, including our own U12B team who we had drawn with; this made us determined to strike back against other teams our age to be better and grow as a team. The whistle went against Sutton Grammar and we were really under pressure but we did get a goal even though we had struggled getting the ball out wide. The second-half began with us trying to hold on till the final whistle but unfortunately they scored, making it 1-1 but we held our chins high. With some great challenges in the middle and in defence we battled till the end. In the last minutes of the game they managed to get it into the net making it 2-1 to Sutton Grammar; we searched for a comeback in the last few seconds but we were unfortunately unable to do so. Overall our season was great, with us winning 7 out of 8. Special mention to Harry Douris, Steven Russell, Barnaby Cassidy, Thomas Eastwood, David Faud, Declan Toth, George Mortlock, Oren Goddard, Owen Romhany, Alex O’Neal, Rhys Jassar, William Turner, Callum Donovan and to Alex Pine, Chris Thompson and Matthew James for coming in for the last few games. A massive thank you to Mr Roberts for making it fun and a fantastic time to develop our football skills as we go up through the School. Well played to everyone this season and we hope that we can have an even better record next year. By Steven Russell In 2019 the football U13C team played five matches, winning three, drawing one and losing one, scoring a total of 19 goals and only conceding five during the five games. Our best result was against Bishop’s Stortford High School, winning 8-3. We had an excellent team this year with some great performances from Alex Pine, Christopher Thompson and James Sydenham. Also well done to our goalkeeper, Lucas Wright, for only letting in five goals and scoring one himself. A big thank you to Mr Wood for organizing and coaching the team. By Alex Kelsey U13 C The U12A team thoroughly enjoyed its first season at Brentwood School. Ollie Oldfield and Louis Turner were Captain and Vice-Captain respectively showing excellent leadership qualities to motivate and organise the team. Throughout the season the games have been really competitive and fun. The team won most of their games however were slightly disappointed to lose to local rivals, St Martin’s, the only loss of the season. Special mention must go to Joe Payne and Josh Ajala who both finished with 13 goals scored. We are all incredibly excited for next year and thank Mr Warburton for his coaching this season! By Ollie Oldfield U12 A It has been a very successful season for the U12B football players. We played 10 matches and won 8, drew 1 and lost 1 with an impressive goal tally of 39 goals with only 18 conceded. Much of the success with regard to the number of goals conceded must come down to Dillon Colar who was outstanding for the entire season and certainly made the difference on many occasions with his acrobatic saves. We also benefited hugely from a solid and dependable defence team consisting of Charlie Boast, Edward Linley, Will Pepper and Robbie Johnson who managed between them to thwart many attacking moves from the opposition. We had many players to choose from when selecting the midfield. Jake Sedgley, Beau Taylor and Ted Buggle gave us significant width and were dangerous when they attacked the defence down the wing and opened up scoring opportunities. Fraser Forbes, Archie Stronach and Mikey Ballard gave us a solid midfield platform upon which to create attacking moves and their accurate passing and vision were important components in our forward play. Harry Redgrave and Jarnail Bains provided a constant threat up front and, along with our attack-minded midfield, proved threatening to most teams we faced. There was an excellent team spirit throughout the season and this bodes well for the future of this squad as they move to U13 level. Credit should also go to their coach, the Revd Adrian McConnaughie. By Ted Buggle U12 B
